Body Beast Build: Shoulders

Dynasty Shoulder Pads, Dynasty fashions, pear-shaped, Krystle Carrington, Alexis Colby

Today’s workout was Body Beast Build: Shoulders.

Body Beast, Body Beast for women, Body Beast Build Shoulders, Sagi Kalev

Many many years ago, I worked in an office building with a brand-new 24-hour Fitness. All building workers got a special enrollment deal, so I took advantage and signed up (mostly because my co-workers were doing it, and I didn’t want to be left out). With my enrollment, I got two free personal training sessions. Usually, free personal training sessions are a sales tactic to get you to buy even more sessions, but my trainer was actually interested in helping me with my problem areas (probably because he realized I was a broke college student).
One useful tip he gave me was that if I wanted to balance out my pear-shaped body, I should try to build up my shoulders.
pear, pear-shapedI didn’t stay at the job (or the gym) for too long after that, but when I started P90X a few years ago, I really took that guy’s advice to heart. I was pretty good about using as heavy weights as I could for my shoulders.

But not for Body Beast Build:Shoulders – I played it smart and used low weights for my reps. I had 5-, 7.5-, and 10-pound weights so I could keep up with the workout. But I think this was a pretty good idea for the first workout, and I can try to increase the weights for the next few.
Now, I realize if I don’t lift heavy I’m not going to get wide shoulders. But let’s be honest, even these fashions won’t balance out my hips:

Dynasty or Dallas? Knots Landing or Falcon Crest?
Or all of the above?

    1. What?! Do try P90X, I am not exaggerating when I tell you that it’s life-changing. Come back and let me know if you need any support with it.

  1. I think angel shirts will work better than giant shoulder pads. As far as training goes though, it’s cool that you are working so hard on it! I’m not only an hourglass, but I also gain weight in hidden places and equally across my body, so I guess I can’t truly relate. Don’t worry though, it may hide but I still gain weight after a single piece of cake!

  2. Bahahah! Hey, my good friend once called me a “lollypop head” which was like the best “skinny” compliment EVER…THEN she was like, “oh, wait, no you’re like a barbell,” referred to not only my big mellon of a head on little shoulders but my badonkadonk. I missed the 80’s. I was growing up in Japan. We got Beverly Hills 90210 episodes like 3 years after they were out and had no commercials. It’s a wonder that I’m not completely socially awkward. 🙂 You crack me up!

  3. I have never worked with a personal trainer but do love to work out; either Zumba or walk. I would do more but let’s face it, I am lucky to get that done! LOL

  4. I’m a little too young for Dynasty and Knot’s Landing, but I do think Joan Collins is one classy lady!I watch the new Dallas, and have seen episodes of the old one. I’m a huge 80s tv buff, but the fashion…well I’m glad I wasn’t born until the late eighties. Even if I was, I wouldn’t have needed shoulder pads, because I have naturally broad shoulders. Thank goodness!

    Stopping by from #SITSBlogging!

  5. That would be true, but I haven’t had any by my house this year, and going gluten free gives me the strength to pass on them, so I guess I’m immune to that evil now. Until I find a gf recipe and eat forty of them, I’m good for now 😉

I'd love to hear from you
