Hair Care Tips for Summer

Summer is a wonderful time, filled with adventures and time in the sun. However, spending too much time in the sun can be damaging for our bodies. We’re used to protecting our skin by covering up and applying sun screen, but we rarely think about the effect the sun can have on our hair and scalp. It’s important to think about your hair when you’re off on a Summer adventure and spending lots of time outside. Here are a few tips for keeping your hair in top condition.

Anti-dandruff Shampoo

The sun has a way of robbing us of all of our moisture. You may find that your skin is dryer when you come out of the shower and you go through more moisturiser than usual. The same can be said for your hair. If your hair is dryer than usual, you may experience dandruff. Using an anti-dandruff shampoo three times a week will help your hair and scalp to stay hydrated. Even if you haven’t got dandruff, using the shampoo is a good preventative during Summer months.

Feel the Breeze

Because it Summer and the sun is scorching, you may be tempted to wear hats or caps a lot. While this is a good idea on occasion, it’s important to let your hair feel the breeze. If your scalp is sweating a lot because it’s too wrapped up, you run the risk of developing an itch and your hair becoming greasy. Take your hats off every now and then so your hair and scalp get a chance to breathe. A better alternative may be a breathable scarf.

Keep Up with Hair Cuts

The same is true for any time of year, but our hair has a particularly difficult time during the Summer. Along with the dirt and grime and the styling, our hair often has to cope with immense heat. Getting to the hairdressers will mean you can take care of the split ends that may appear more often in Summer and you can indulge in a conditioning treatment if necessary. If you find that your hair colour is turning brassy in the sun, you’ll find the solution at Beauty Ambition. Alternatively, ask your hairdresser for advice.

Oil Your Hair

Along with the heat often comes humidity. It can be difficult to keep the frizz at bay during the Summer but there are some natural solutions you could try. Before going in the shower, oil your hair from the top to the tips. You can use coconut oil, olive oil or castor oil. The oils help to smooth your hair out and it’ll be much easier to keep your hair smooth once it’s dry.

Put Your Hair Up

Sometimes, the only way to protect your hair is to put it up. Up-dos don’t have to be boring; there are plenty of ways you can experiment. However, you should make sure your hair isn’t pinned too tightly. With the hot weather, it’s easy to get a headache when your hair is pulled tight against your head.

I'd love to hear from you
