November Literary Junkies Link Party

A Brief History of Seven Killings

The near-end of November and I finally got my reading momentum going again, just in time for the holidays! Today I’m linking up with the November Literary Junkies Link Party to see what other bloggers are reading, too.

Here are this month’s questions:

1. What are you reading right now? Tell us about it.
dead water by ann cleeves
I’m reading Dead Water by Ann Cleeves, the fifth book in the Shetland Island mystery series. Yes, the mysteries are a bit formulaic, but I love the way the author describes the setting of the Shetland Islands, and the way she bounces from character to character in each chapter. I highly recommend this series if you’re a fan of murder mysteries!

2. Now that we’re coming up to the holidays, are there any books you like to return to or remind you of childhood?
Mr. Ives' Christmas by Oscar Hijuelos
I wouldn’t mind re-reading Mr. Ives’ Christmas by Oscar Hijuelos. Hijuelos was one of my favorite authors when I was in college.

3. Do you have any new books on your wishlist?
A Brief History of Seven Killings by Marlon James
I’ve got a ton of books on the library hold list, including the new Man Booker Prize winner, A Brief History of Seven Killings by Marlon James. I know next to nothing about Jamaica or the attempted murder of Bob Marley (I don’t know much about him, either…), so I’m excited to learn something new with historical fiction.

4. Favorite book you’ve ever received as a gift?
DK Eyewitness Travel Guide to Spain
DK Eyewitness Travel Guide to Spain. It’s a beautiful travel guide, not really what you’d use while on the road, but perfect for reminiscing about a past trip.

5. Favorite book centered around the holidays?
Can you believe that nothing comes to mind? I’m looking forward to reading other Literary Junkies’ responses to this one.
