Run Hard Rock Cafe 10K Race Recap

On Saturday I headed out to Hollywood to run the Hard Rock Cafe 10K. It’s been months since I ran any sort of race, so I was really happy to receive the invitation to run. I needed the push to get out there again!

The race was sponsored by Hard Rock Cafe Hollywood to benefit My Friend’s Place. If you’ve not heard of them, here are some stats from their webpage:

My Friend’s Place served 1,418 homeless young people last year – over one third of the homeless youth population in Los Angeles

MFP provided nearly 30,000 meals to homeless youth

MFP provided over 540 linkages to on-site and off-site medical care for youth

MFP provided intensive case management to 452 homeless young people

MFP helped over 118 homeless youth successfully move into housing

Kudos to Hard Rock Cafe Hollywood for supporting this important project.

Now, on to the race!

Here I am with 2500 of my fellow Angelenos at 7am on a Saturday morning, ready to go!
The MC was great, pumping us up while we waited to start, and cheering us on as we approached the finish line.Race recap of the Run Hard Rock Cafe 10k in Hollywood to benefit My Friend's Place, with a post-race Hefeweizen from Wolf Creek breweryRace recap of the Run Hard Rock Cafe 10k in Hollywood to benefit My Friend's Place, with a post-race Hefeweizen from Wolf Creek brewery

It was a beautiful morning – cool, dry, without a cloud in the sky. The course was down Hollywood Blvd – nearly into Silver Lake – then back to Hollywood&Highland.Race recap of the Run Hard Rock Cafe 10k in Hollywood to benefit My Friend's Place, with a post-race Hefeweizen from Wolf Creek brewery

This race was pretty tough, I’m not going to pretend it wasn’t. But I was thrilled to be there, and not displeased with my time. Not bad for not training. I’m now determined to run regularly and continue to improve my time. How sparkly and pretty is this medal? I may or may not have worn it when I ran my Saturday errands…I brought bling to the post office and grocery store!Race recap of the Run Hard Rock Cafe 10k in Hollywood to benefit My Friend's Place, with a post-race Hefeweizen from Wolf Creek brewery
Here were the options for the post-race recovery drinks. Guess which one I chose? Here’s a clue: I’m lactose-intolerant. Thanks again to the Hard Rock Cafe Hollywood for a great race! It was well-organized and a lot of fun.

And of course no visit to Hollywood is complete without a visit to Vivian’s old apartment building. Take care of you!
