Summer Book Challenge

Semi Charmed Life Summer 2014 book challenge

I’m taking part of Semi-Charmed’s Book Challenge – head over to her blog and link up if you want to join too!

The challenge runs from May 1, 2014, to August 31, 2014. The first check-in will be on June 1, and my goal is to have read 3 or 4 books by that time to keep on track.
Here are the categories for the books I should read for the challenge:

5 points: Freebie! Read any book that is at least 200 pages long.
10 points: Read a book that was written before you were born.
10 points: Finish reading a book you couldn’t finish the first time around. (You must have at least 150 pages left in the book to use it for this category.)
10 points: Read a book from the children’s section of the library or bookstore.
15 points: Read a book that is on The New York Times‘ Best Sellers List when you begin reading it.
15 points:
Read a historical fiction book that does not take place in Europe.
15 points: Read a book another blogger has already read for the challenge. (Yes, you will have to wait until the first check-in to choose this book! So no one will be able to finish this challenge in only one month; sorry!)
20 points: Read a book with “son(s),” “daughter(s)” or “child(ren)” in the title. No other words will count—including kids, offspring, etc.—so please don’t ask. 🙂
20 points: Read a book that was/will be adapted to film in 2014. (Here are 16 ideas to get you started, but I know there are plenty more options.)
25 points: Read a book written by a blogger. (Submitted by Jessica of The Tangerine.)
25 points: Read a biography, autobiography or memoir.
30 points: Read a pair of books with antonyms in the titles.

Some bloggers have already filled out these categories with books they plan to read, but me? I’ll keep it open and play it by ear. I expect to have a little bit of trouble with the categories in red font, so suggestions are welcome!

What do you think of this reading challenge? Will you join us?

  1. Hi Wendy! This seems like it could be a lot of fun, of course I can barely get through 1 book in 3 months now a days but I plan on joing my local library challenge as well so maybe this is doable… 🙂

    1. Ooh, a local library challenge sounds fun, too! What are the rules for that?
Good luck with the reading! I know it’s hard to find time.

  2. this is a fun challenge! I am reading that last book in the “daughter of smoke and bone” series right now, so the first one could get you 20 points if you read it!

    1. That sounds like a very interesting series. I’ll see if my library has it. Thanks for the suggestion!

  3. Sounds like a fab challenge! I just can not get thro books unless I am totally in the zone which is hardly ever! I do love audiobooks on walks & at gym. I have read A child called it but it’s very sad so not sure it’s a recommendation :/ look forward to seeing your scores!

  4. Love this challenge. I just have a hard time finding time to read these days but I love to read. I might try anyway even though I’m already behind!

I'd love to hear from you
