The Girl You Left Behind

The 2014 Blogger Challenge’s 3rd topic is about a recently-read book. I just had to write about The Girl You Left Behind by Jojo Moyes. It’s been a long time since I stayed up all night to read a book, but I didn’t get to sleep until 3am reading this (and at some points during the night I was awkwardly crouched near an outlet because the battery on my tablet was running low).

The Girl You Left Behind by Jojo Moyes
I’ve been binge-reading Jojo Moyes since I read Me Before You. I have really enjoyed her books, but The Girl You Left Behind was really special.

This novel covers two stories – modern-day London and occupied France during World War I. Despite the century that separates these two stories, they are very much intertwined.

Before reading this book, I read the short novel Honeymoon in Paris. Honeymoon in Paris by Jojo MoyesThis prequel to The Girl You left Behind relates the difficulties facing both sets of newlyweds. I didn’t realize it was a prequel until I read The Girl You Left Behind.

I do have one minor complaint -SPOILER-ISH
Not once in The Girl You Left Behind was it mentioned that Liv and David had seen the Édouard’s painting of Sophie while they were in Paris. That would have been a wonderful way to tie the two stories together even more, and to explain Liv’s attachment to the painting.

Thanks Gaby for hosting this link-up!

Facial Friday – Skincare Empties

It’s the weekend!
The second #2014BloggerChallenge writing prompt is Skincare, so I thought I’d combine that with the empties post I was planning to write.

Here are a few products I’ve used up recently:

Avon Anew Reversalist Day with SPF 25 – I’ve been using Anew for years, but I think this is my last jar. Since I’ve been using mandelic acid toner, I don’t want too many actives on my face since I’m afraid it exacerbates redness and that’s the last thing I need. So, I bought a regular SPF moisturizer from Avon to replace this.

Avon Anew Rejuvenate 24-Hour Eye Moisturizer – I liked that this jar had two wells – one side was for night with a think, balm-like texture; and the other side was for day with SPF and a thinner lotion. I have another jar of it under the sink (I can never resist Avon’s Buy-2 sales) but I’ve been using an eyecream from Makeup Artist’s Choice lately instead.

Also, I can’t stand that silver paint on the rim of these jars. It gets all over the place, including my fingers and it somehow it ends up on my face.

GarnierLight – I previously reviewed it here. I couldn’t repurchase this even if I wanted since it’s not available in the US.

20140121-112922.jpgPeter Thomas Roth – I snagged these from a hotel where we stayed in Cabo last year – naughty naughty. This lotion had a wonderful tea scent, but other than that, it wasn’t anything really special. It was handy to carry around in my bag, though.

Dial NutriSkin Replenishing lotion – yeah, I ripped into this. I used it for another 3 weeks after slicing it open; that’s a LOT of product.

What have you used up recently? Have you tried any of these products? Have a great weekend!

2014 Blogger Challenge – New Year’s Inspiration

Today felt like a Monday, didn’t it? But tomorrow’s Friday so it all works out very well.

2014.000-2Today’s post is the first in a series for the 2014 Blogger Challenge hosted by Gaby at Another Girly Blog. Thanks, Gaby!

Topic 1: “New Year’s Inspiration” – Instead of writing new year’s resolutions on my blog, I am sharing some pictures that inspire me.

Beachbody Coach, Team Beachbody, P90X, P90X3, T25, Insanity, Turbo Fire, Brazil Butt Lift, Shakeology

I drank the Kool Aid Shakeology and am pretty much convinced that Beachbody will change my life even more than it already has.

7 Cardinal Rules for Life

#4 is especially true

You can't out-exercise a bad diet.

Yes, I know.

It's never too late to be what you might have been.

At the age of 41, I became a runner! Crazy but true.

What inspires you for the new year?
