Avon Nailwear Pro Nail Enamel in Olive Green

Good morning friends!
I pulled out this color -Avon Nailwear Pro Nail Enamel in Olive Green – from deeeep within my nail polish stash for today’s Manicure Monday. I’ve probably had this nail polish for a good 5 or 6 years.

I love this color. Not just the nail polish, but Olive Green in general is a favorite shade of mine. I’d wear this color all day every day if I were not afraid of looking…militant.

Olive Green is a rich, deep, dusty green. With colors this bold, nail polishing errors sure are apparent, aren’t they? I’m still working on my polishing skillz.

I only need two coats for full opacity. It was layered over a base coat of Orly Bonder and under a top coat of Sally Hansen Miracle Gel. It applied smoothly and evenly. Because I am impatient, I dunked my fingertips in a bowl of ice water to make it dry faster. I got about 5 days’ wear from this combo before it started to chip.

Manicure Monday – Avon Nocturnal

Happy Monday everyone! I’m back from working in Mexico City again, and again making a valiant attempt to post regularly.

Starting with Manicure Monday! Oh Avon, so tempting with $3 polishes in the clearance section of the website, and when I’m $5 away from free shipping…you see how it happens that I accumulate so many polishes.

This is two coats of Avon Nocturnal, with a base coat of Orly Bonder and Sally Hansen Miracle Gel Top Coat. I probably could have used three coats, but I slapped this on during a lunch break in my hotel room and I had to let it dry before going back to work. Hey, sometimes you just need to polish your nails!

I think this type of mushroom color was in vogue for a while – a dark grey (or perhaps brown?) color with hints of purple. This is definitely a color going into regular rotation now. The application is smooth and it’s a good autumn/winter neutral without being overly-vampy. Not that vampishness has ever been a problem for me!

November Empties

Hello December! I think I’ll try to summarize my used-up products monthly;  here’s my entry for November empties.

I review Dove Intensive Nutrition body lotion, Avon Elements Moisture Boost, Cosmedica vitamin C serum, Avon Haiku, Everyday Minerals Smokey Pink eyeshadow

1. Dove Intensive Nutrition body lotion – I bought this in Mexico (as you can probably tell from the packaging). It’s a very nice body lotion that absorbs quickly and works well. But! It doesn’t have that nice Dove scent, so I probably will not repurchase.
It’s also worth noting that in Mexico, it’s ~$3, but at Target, it’s ~$8. What gives?!

2. Avon Elements Moisture Boost SPF 15 – I may or may not have nagged suggested to 유씨 that he wear sunscreen on a regular basis, and I’m happy to report that this item is a staple for him. He uses it on his face, his arms, his legs…I’ve been following his lead and using it on pretty much any exposed skin (other than my face). It smells nice and doesn’t leave a residue. There may or may not be 3 more bottles in the cupboard under the sink at home.

3. Cosmedica vitamin C serum – the lovely poeple from Cosmedica sent this to me a while ago, but I only recently added it to my skincare rotation. I wasn’t sure that it did anything for my face, but now that I don’t have it anymore, I miss it! I will repurchase.

4. Avon Haiku purse spray – I reviewed Avon Haiku here. As much as I like this fragrance, there are so many more out there to try, especially now with my ScentBird subscription! So, I probably will not purchase.

5. Everyday Minerals Smokey Pink eyeshadow – if you use mineral eyeshadow, you know that using this up took no less than 4-5 years. I would repurchase, but it’s been discontinued. So I’ll have to turn to the rest of the eyeshadows in my stash for a replacement.

Still raving about Sally Hansen Miracle Gel Top Coat

Last week I blogged about Sally Hansen Miracle Gel Top Coat and how I was chip-free for an entire week.

Sally Hansen Miracle Gel Top Coat, Zoya Fawne

I feel like quite the lady these days, with nicely-painted nails and a fresh-looking manicure.

Sally Hansen Miracle Gel Top Coat, Zoya Fawne

Here are some things I’ve learned since using this product:

  • The top coat dries very quickly, but the layers underneath don’t, so I still have to be careful lest I dent the polish.
  • I’m still using Orly Bonder as a base coat.
  • This top coat makes my nails thick. They almost look like acrylics when I look down on the tips. My nails seem…sturdy.
  • The top coat is also very shiny. It doesn’t dull after a few days.
  • Some brands of polish and top coat don’t work very well together, but I’ve used this with Avon and Zoya and so far so good.
  • I use regular acetone nail polish remover to take this off, but it does take some elbow grease.

Okay, enough raving about this top coat, but I’m so so happy with it, I just had to blog about it.

Any products you’re loving right now?

The most miraculous top coat I’ve ever used

Happy Monday!

I haven’t done a Manicure Monday in ages because I don’t paint my nails all that often. I can get maybe a day out of a mani before it chips, no matter if I do it in a salon or on my own. As I blogged about before, I did get a good 2-3 days off a mani by using Orly Bonder between each coat of polish, but that’s still only 3 days.

So when I was last at home in the US and at Target, I bought the aptly-named Sally Hanson Miracle Gel Top Coat. I didn’t really expect it to work out too well, but this stuff is…a miracle!

Sunday, before clean-up (Clean-up for me is a shower; I haven’t got mani skillz like that)sally hansen miracle gel top coat, orly bonder, avon nail polish cosmic eclipse, chip-free manicure, manicure monday, nice nails

Monday, after “clean-up”. There’s a little bit of wear around the cuticles, probably because I was a bit aggressive in the shower trying to get the nail polish off my skin.

Tuesday, in the sun so you can see the sparkles in this polish. It’s Eclipse from the Avon Cosmic line of nail polishes.

Wednesday, starting to see a bit of tip wear. Totally user error since I didn’t wrap my tips.

Thursday and nary a chip to be found.

Friday. Yes, camera phone photos aren’t terribly clear, but believe me when I tell you that this mani is still very shiny. Very, very shiny.

Saturday and I don’t mind being #basic…but still no chips! Just tip wear. sally hansen miracle gel top coat, orly bonder, avon nail polish cosmic eclipse, chip-free manicure, manicure monday, nice nails

Sunday, a full week after application. and I finally see a chip. This is usually what my nails look like after a day or two without using the SH Miracle Gel top coat. This stuff is incredible!

This has never happened to me before – a manicure that lasts an entire week. An entire week! I’m removing my nail polish today because I’m sick of it, not because it looks unkempt. I feel like I’ve stumbled across something life-changing. Yes, I’m overly dramatic but dayum! A week-long manicure!

How do you keep your nails looking nice?
