Tough it out Tuesday Link-up

Today I’m linking up with Kay at The Best of Intentions.

The Best Of Intentions

It’s been tough for me to stick to my regular exercise routine. For the last two weeks, I’ve been sleeping in, missing morning workouts, and fitting them in at odd times. I don’t have any excuses – the time change was two weeks ago, and I should be accustomed to waking up and working out at 5am.

On Monday, I started T25. Since I’ll be doing doubles of T25 and Body Beast for the next 8 weeks, I will HAVE to stick to a regular schedule.

Body Beast, T25, Beachbody workouts, Body Beast for Women, Beachbody coach
I started the T25 program because I am hosting a challenge group and I wanted to do the same workout as my challengers. I needn’t have bothered; there is exactly one participant. I issued invitations to people who expressed specific interest in T25…no one wanted to make the commitment. Okay. I get it – I procrastinated fitness for years before I got into it. Sticking to a routine is tough, and making changes is scary.
On the other hand, no one ever got fit by talking about it. Aannnd the people I invited are avoiding me. From now on, I’ll just smile and nod when someone asks me about exercise and tells me that they need to get in shape.

What’s been tough for you lately?

The Week in Workouts

Let’s just lay it out there – my workout week sucked.

Monday – Overslept.
Tuesday – Body Beast Bulk:Chest. After work I went to Bikram yoga.
Wednesday – Body Beast Bulk:Legs
Thursday – Overslept. After work I went to Bikram yoga.
Friday – Overslept.
Saturday – Slept in until 10:30am. I haven’t slept that late in ages, so I must have needed it. 유씨 and I did Body Beast Bulk: Arms, then Insanity Pure Cardio. I needed the endorphins, not going to lie about that.
Sunday – Body Beast Bulk:Back and a 60-minute run.

Where I did well:
Yoga. I think Bikram is the most challenging exercise I have ever done, but I still went twice, and I’ll keep it up until my pass expires.
Eating. I decided to stop counting calories and macros for the Bulk phase of Body Beast and just wing it. My only rule was that I had to get in 5-7 servings of veggies every day. But! I have not gone overboard at all. This is very unusual for me – the minute I go off-plan, I tend to eat a lot of cr@p (especially when I’ve got a stressful work situation). But this week, I’ve eaten only when I was hungry. Who am I anymore?

Where I need to improve:
Walking. My Fitbit only buzzed once this week to tell me that I’ve reached my 15,000 step count goal.
Abs. I had some notion of doing abs every day, alternating between regular abs and obliques, but I didn’t even do any abs once this week.
Running. The half marathon is a mere 20 days away. To say that I’m unprepared is kind of an understatement.
Waking up! I know daylight savings time is a pain, but I need to get over it and get my rear in gear.

How were your workouts for the week?

My eyes were bigger than my biceps

This Week in Workouts link-up with Ashley from Sweaty Girl in a Fur-Covered World

From My Life to Our Life

Monday – I started the Bulk phase of Body Beast with Bulk:Chest and a 5-mile run. Hey! I thought Bulk:Chest was not all that tough! Until the next day and my chest was so sore that breathing kind of hurt.

Tuesday – Body Beast Bulk:Legs and Blogilates Hot Abs. I used 35-pound weights for the sumo squats! Very exciting, but hardly surprising that my big cuban culo is the strongest muscle on my body. I walked 7.5 miles this day. (Is culo still a rude word, or has Pitbull normalized it?)

Wednesday – Body Beast Bulk:Arms. I used 12.5- and 15-pound weights. I tried to use the 17.5 weights, but my eyes were bigger than my biceps. 10-pound weights were much too light, so I just stuck with the 12.5s and 15s. There was a sorry attempt at a run because I thought my legs weren’t all that tired from yesterday’s workout. The legs disagreed. I walked 7 miles this day and I did Blogilates Muffin Top Meltdown.

Thursday – this is Body Beast cardio day, but instead I ran 5 miles and did Body Beast Abs.

Friday – Body Beast Bulk:Back. This was a short, 30-minute workout. I walked 6 miles on the treadmill with my new walking shoes from Vionic (click here to join us in the 2014 Walkabout!) while I caught up with my soaps. I thought about doing some abs but I don’t suppose that counts.

Saturday – 2-mile warm-up run before Body Beast Bulk:Shoulders. 유씨 joined me in the apartment gym for Body Beast today. I belong to a Facebook group for ladies who do Body Beast, and a common theme is how their boyfriends/husbands/families tell them that weight-lifting is not for women, they’re going to look like men, blah blah blah. Not here, though – 유씨 is happy to join and encourage me. I am very lucky.

Sunday – Rest day, so I ran 6 miles on the treadmill while – you guessed it – I caught up on my soaps. I went to my ladies’ gym for this. I love that place.

Body Beast Bulk Phase nutrition, Body Beast for womenWhy lie? This is the real reason I started to do Body Beast.

I’ve got 4 more weeks of the Bulk phase in Body Beast, so I’m hopeful I really will get to those 17.5-pound weights for bicep curls. Maybe even 20s?

This Week in Workouts

Linking up over at Sweaty Girl in a Fur-Covered World – come join us!

From My Life to Our Life
  • MondayBody Beast Build: Back&Biceps. I did this in the apartment gym so I used TRX for pullups. Sometimes I forget how much I like TRX, so I love it when I can combine it with my Beachbody workouts. I also did Blogilates Muffin Top Meltdown and Intense Abs. My FitBit says I walked 6.4 miles.
  • TuesdayBrazil Butt Lift BumBum instead of Body Beast cardio, and Beast Abs. Plus a 3-mile run.
  • Wednesday – Body Beast Build:Shoulders. FitBit says I walked 8.9 miles this day. I guess that sort of makes up for my failed running and abs intentions.
  • Thursday – Body Beast rest day. I didn’t have much activity at all this day – FitBit recorded only 3.8 miles walked.
  • Friday – 2-mile run, Body Beast Build: Chest&Tris, and Blogilates Intense Abs. I tried to up my weights with Body Beast this day and met with mixed success. At one point during the Partial Flys, the 20-pound weight just dropped out of my hand and rolled away.
  • Saturday – Body Beast Build:Legs, Blogilates Muffin Top Meltdown, and a 2-mile run.
  • Sunday – Body Beast Build:Back&Biceps (using TRX on the pull-ups again) and Blogilates Intense Abs. FitBit says I walked 6.6 miles this day.

Where I fell short this week:

  • Running – I am not getting in nearly as many miles as I should. The half marathon is not too far away.
  • Nutrition – My calories Monday – Thursday were too low, and I went way, waaay off-plan on the weekend because of social events.
  • Stretching – I need to do a LOT more of this.
  • Water – 2 liters a day is not nearly enough for me and I am really feeling it.

Where I did well this week:

  • Vegetables – Even on my off-plan days, I got in my minimum of 5 veggies and fruits.
  • Increasing my weights – even by just a little bit, and even if only for the first set of exercises, I’m really excited by my increased strength.
  • Just sticking with it -Body Beast ain’t easy and even though I’ve done the first phase of videos 3 or 4 times, I’m still in pain very sore.

Did you workout this week? Do you take it easy on the weekends or hit the gym?

This Week in Workouts

I’m linking up with Ashley from Sweaty Girl in a Fur-Covered World for This Week in Workouts.

This Week In Workouts, Body Beast for Women

This was my second week of Body Beast. Now that I know what to expect in the DVDs, the workouts were a little easier. Maybe easier isn’t the right word, but I didn’t sit on the weight bench with my mouth agape thinking OMGWTFBBQ. This week I felt like I could get the workouts done.

Sean Lowe the Bachelor, Sagi Kalev, Body Beast, Body Beast for Women

Monday – Body Beast Build:Legs and Blogilates Intense Abs.
Tuesday – Body Beast Build:Back & Biceps, and Blogilates Muffin Top Meltdown.
Wednesday – Brazil Butt Lift Bum Bum (I previously reviewed it here) and a 3-mile run instead of Body Beast Cardio.
Thursday – Body Beast Build:Shoulders and Insanity Pure Cardio (I previously reviewed it here).
Friday – This was a Body Beast rest day, so I put in a 4-mile run.
Saturday – Body Beast Build:Chest and Tris. I’d planned to run a bit, to do another Blogilates abs workout…but I was out of gas.
Sunday – Body Beast Build:Legs and Blogilates Intense Abs. Then I walked on the treadmill at a leisurely pace for two episodes of EastEnders.

It wasn’t quite as much exercise as I wanted for the week. I would have liked to run more and get in a few more abs workouts, but I think I underestimated how much Body Beast would tire me out. This workout is not a joke. The short runs that I am doing are going to have to suffice for my half marathon training for now.

Did you work out this week?

If you’re snowed in, you might not realize that summer is on its way! Get ready for shorts and swimsuits with this at-home exercise program.
