Sunday Social -Makeup Routine

I hope you all had a great weekend! Today’s Sunday Social is a topic after my own heart.

1. How old were you when you started wearing makeup?
12 or 13 – I had cystic acne and piled on all kind of nasty foundation in a vain attempt to cover it. I used my mother’s CoverGirl Clean. I love the smell of CoverGirl, but it was the wrong color, I didn’t know how to apply it, and it looked a mess, probably worse than just the acne alone.

Remember these old bottles?

2. What are your top 3 favorite beauty products?
Foundation (Lumiere Minerals Cashmere, but the company has disappeared!)
Mascara (not too picky)
Lip Gloss (Avon Glazewear usually)

3. What is one makeup product you don’t leave home without?
Lucy Minerals finishing powderLucy Minerals Finishing Powder. It’s an HG product for sure.

4. What is your daily beauty routine?
Wake up, work out, shower, comb my hair, put on foundation, blush, eyeliner, mascara, finishing powder, and run for the bus.

5. What is your favorite hair/makeup product you’ve discovered in the last year?
Aussomely CleanI really like Aussie Aussomely Clean Conditioner to wash my hair.

Have a great week!

My Top 5 Beauty Items of 2013

Have you seen these Top 5 Beauty Items of 2013 lists floating around the blogosphere? Everyone’s list is different and I love reading what items have become someone’s Holy Grail product.

Here’s my Top 5 Beauty Items of 2013 list:

Giovanni D:Tox Purifying Cleanser, Makeup Artist's Choice Mandelic Acid, Lucy Minerals finishing powder, Lucy Minerals Juicy Peach, Lumiere Cosmetics Cashmere Foundation

1. Giovanni D:Tox Purifying Facial Cleanser – read my review of this cleanser here. It’s definitely helped clear my pores without stripping my skin or making it feel dry.

2. Lumiere Cosmetics Cashmere Foundation in Light Medium Golden – read my review of this foundation here. I caught a glimpse of my reflection in a mirror the other day, and I was surprised how even my complexion looked thanks to this foundation. I waffle between Light Medium and Light Golden, so I have a jar of each on hand.

3. Lucy Minerals Oil Control Silica Finishing Powder and Juicy Peach blush (okay, that’s two; I’m cheating). The finishing powder is so smooth and soft and just perfect. PERFECT. The blush is pretty and makes me look – dare I say it – youthful.

4. Makeup Artist’s Choice 5% Mandelic Acid Toner – I stopped using this toner over the summer because I was worried about sun exposure on my chemically-exfoliated face, but I started using this again a couple of weeks ago. It took about 3 days for my skin to look smoother and fresher. I’ll just buy a stronger sunscreen next year. And a hat. I need this in my life no matter what the season.

5. Makeup Artist’s Choice 25% Mandelic Acid Peel – I was a bit intimidated by an at-home chemical peel! But mandelic acid is both gentle and effective. The brown blotches on the side of my face have faded considerably. Like the toner, I stopped this over the summer – I won’t make that mistake again next summer.

I have blogged about Cashmere foundation, haven’t it? It’s the most reliable mineral foundation I’ve ever tried (and please believe when I say I’ve tried pretty much all of them), so I may or may not be stocking up. Perhaps I don’t need another jar (or several) in varying Golden shades of Light, Medium Light, Medium…but whatever, I’m buying them anyway.

Are you stocking up at Lumiere Cosmetics?

Lumiere Cosmetics purchase

I recently purchased some foundation and concealer from Lumiere Cosmetics.

I bought Cashmere foundation (my HG for sure) in Medium Golden because despite my best efforts to avoid tanning, it happens every summer. This year, however…I feel like I’ll be working a LOT so I probably won’t need the darker shade.
My usual shade of Light Golden was too light when I ordered Medium Golden a month ago, but it’s fine now – that’s how much I have not been outdoors so far this summer. If I do manage to see daylight anytime soon, I’ll just spoon a bit of the Medium Golden into my Light Golden and custom-mix the perfect shade. Just one of the reasons I love mineral makeup.20130619-202619.jpg

Also desperately need was concealer for the panda circles shadows under my eyes. Since my circles are blue, I’m hoping the concealer in Salmon will work for me. 20130619-202605.jpg

Lumiere is really awesome makeup, and when the company runs a sale the prices are fantastic.
