Green Smoothie Challenge – Day 3

Did I say I would not need to replace my Magic Bullet, despite years of faithful service? How wrong I was – I had not yet been introduced to its powerful cousin, the NutriBullet.

green smoothie day 3

Today’s Green(ish) smoothie is a handful of broccoli, three carrots, about a half cup of frozen blueberries, a splash of lemon juice, and a few sprinkles of tumeric. Add some water and even the un-chopped broccoli is blended into liquid drinkability.

I’ve tried making smoothies with broccoli before – in the Magic Bullet, in a blender, finely chopped….but it was always lumpy and I’d had to chew my green smoothies, which rather defeated the purpose. Not with the NutriBullet! Everything is whizzed into an actual smoothie. Best infomercial purchase ever! (Well, just behind P90X. And Insanity. And the NuWave Oven.)

Magic Bullet

After years of faithful service, my Magic Bullet bit the dust today. I used it several times a day – to blend my coffee with almond milk, to juice broccoli with green tea for a breakfast drink, for my protein shakes…the uses were innumerable. (I didn’t pay no $99 + s&h though; it’s half that at CostCo)

To replace the Magic Bullet, we got a Hamilton Beach Single Serve Blender. $9.99 at Sears! I can’t wait to try it tomorrow. I don’t need all those extra lids and cups and rims that the Magic Bullet offers, so I didn’t need to repurchase it, even though it did work really well.

Today’s workout – P90X Chest, Shoulders, and Triceps and butterscotch protein shake

I did this workout at home today, because I would be ashamed for people at the gym to see me fall flat on my face while attempting plyo push-ups. Although I managed 10 today! (on my knees) That’s the most I’ve ever been able to do.

I worked so hard today I wasn’t even thrown off when Tony Horton kept calling this guy by the wrong name.

Dave, David, Davey, anything, even Sean

Today’s protein shake:

  • 1/2 Trader Joe’s fat-free cottage cheese
  • 1 scoop CrioSport 100% Whey in vanilla
  • 1 teaspoon Truvia
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 teaspoons sugar-free butterscotch pudding mix
  • 1/4 teaspoon xantham gum
  • however much water fits in the Magic Bullet canister

I gave the canister a good shake and blended it up on the Magic Bullet. 277 calories, 2.5 grams fat, 12.7 grams carbs, 41 grams protein. I could probably get regular cottage cheese to add in some fat.

Butterscotch Protein Shake

Very tasty! Just like a regular butterscotch milkshake (almost)
