Manicure Monday – Zoya Mimi

Happy Monday! I’m back with one of my most favorite nail polishes in the history of nail polish…Zoya Mimi.

Zoya Mimi

If there is a more pretty-pretty princess shade than this, I have yet to find it. If you know of one, please tell me! Zoya Mimi is a deep, sparkingly, royal purple with flashes of hot pink glitter. It’s just fabulous.

Zoya Mimi

I use three coats over Orly Bonder base coat. I probably could have just used two coats, but I wanted to make sure the color was fully saturated. Now, this polish has a bit of a rough texture because of the glitter, but with Sally Hansen Miracle Gel Top Coat, it was very smooth.

Zoya Mimi

I have quite a few Zoya polishes thanks to those Earth Day promos they used to run (maybe they still do? I don’t know ). The colors are always unique and varied, but more than any other brand I’ve used, a base coat and top coat with Zoya are essential.

Manicure Monday – Cover Girl Star Wars collection

A few weeks ago, I got this lovely bunch of goodies from Proctor&Gamble- the Star Wars collection from Cover Girl!

Star Wars: The Force Awakens collection from Cover Girl with Outlast Stay Brilliant nail polish in Mutant

So when I went to see Star Wars in the theater over Christmas, of course I had to use something from this collection…

This is three coats of Mutant – a bright blue cream. I used three coats to get as much vibrancy as I could, but two coats would have been fine, too. It goes on smoothly without any streaks or bubbling.

Between the Sally Hansen Miracle Gel Top Coat and the Cover Girl Outlast formula, this stuff wears like iron.

I think I’m getting better at polishing my nails; after all, practice makes perfect. I just need to go slowly between each coat and allow plenty of time for drying.

Now, on to the movie! I think this is the continuation of the series that Star Wars fans have been waiting for (we’re just going to forget Episodes 1-3). I laughed, I cried, I made plans to see it again, and I forgave George Lucas for Jar Jar Binks.

Have you seen Star Wars: The Force Awakens? Did you love it?

Manicure Monday – Avon Nocturnal

Happy Monday everyone! I’m back from working in Mexico City again, and again making a valiant attempt to post regularly.

Starting with Manicure Monday! Oh Avon, so tempting with $3 polishes in the clearance section of the website, and when I’m $5 away from free shipping…you see how it happens that I accumulate so many polishes.

manicure monday with Avon Nocturnal, Orly Bonder base coat, Sally Hansen Miracle Gel top coat

This is two coats of Avon Nocturnal, with a base coat of Orly Bonder and Sally Hansen Miracle Gel Top Coat. I probably could have used three coats, but I slapped this on during a lunch break in my hotel room and I had to let it dry before going back to work. Hey, sometimes you just need to polish your nails!

I think this type of mushroom color was in vogue for a while – a dark grey (or perhaps brown?) color with hints of purple. This is definitely a color going into regular rotation now. The application is smooth and it’s a good autumn/winter neutral without being overly-vampy. Not that vampishness has ever been a problem for me!

China Glaze Recycle

Ages ago I hauled at Skyline Beauty Supply thanks to Groupon, but I only have just tried China Glaze Recycle.

For this week's Manicure Monday, I tried China Glaze Recycle nail polish with Sally Hansen Miracle Gel topcoatFor this week's Manicure Monday, I tried China Glaze Recycle nail polish with Sally Hansen Miracle Gel topcoat

Yes, these are crazy-blurry pictures, but it’s really a nice color. It’s a warm, midtone grey creme polish.  I’m not sure why it took me so long to try it? I really like it. Application was smooth and opaque after just two coats, and thanks to Sally Hansen Miracle Gel Top Coat that I can’t stop raving about, it wears really well, too.

My goal for next week’s Manicure Monday is un-blurry photos! Any tips for me?

Soap & Glory Hand Food

You may or may not have noticed the lack of Manicure Monday posts recently and there’s a reason for that. My hands are a mess! My cuticles are dry, my knuckles are cracked, my nails brittle and broken…they look awful.

So when I saw this gift set at Marshalls this weekend, I had to buy it.

My hands are in bad shape, so I purchased Soap & Glory Hand Food from Marshalls to battle dry, cracked hands and brittle nails.

I first tried Soap & Glory Hand Food as a gift from Sarah at Life in a Breakdown, and I really liked it. And I needed its intense repairing moisture for my hands. It was pretty much an emergency!

So much of an emergency, in fact, that I couldn’t even wait until I got home to use the lotion – I used it immediately!

I haven’t tried the soap yet, but the hand lotion has been going on several times a day. I think it’s working! And if I see another one of these sets at Marshalls again…you’d better believe I’m buying it. I’d forgot how much I liked it and how effective it was. I might seek out more Soap & Glory products too. Now that I’m getting back into running, my tootsies sure could use a nice cream too!

What do you use when your hands are dry?
