Mascara Monday – MesmerEyes by Napoleon Perdis

Happy Monday! Today I’m reviewing MesmerEyes by Napoleon Perdis. This was a gift from Meg’s Makeup! (affiliate link) Meg sure is keeping me well-supplied.
Napoleon Perdis advertises this mascara as a miracle bra for your lashes!

Napolean Perdis mascaraThis mascara has a very unique brush – longer bristles on one side and short, wider-spaced bristles on the other. I used the longer side on my top lashes and shorter side on my lower lashes. I suppose I could try using both sides on my upper lashes for more definition, but the one side gives me plenty of volume and length with just two coats.

Napolean Perdis mascara wandIt took a couple of attempts to get the application right, but it was well worth the effort! My lashes looked thicker and well-defined without being clumpy. I really liked combing this through my upper lashes and seeing them get coated – it was so precise, much different than with a traditional mascara brush.

I will definitely purchase this for myself, but I wish it came in brown too. Napoleon Perdis is cruelty-free and available online or at Ulta

What’s the most unusual mascara wand you’ve seen?

I don’t know if I’ve done one of these posts before? But I was inspired by Beauty and Babbling’s recent empties post so I thought I’d write one up.

empties 1

Giovanni DTox System Replenishing Facial Moisturizer – this is Step 3 in a skincare system that I received from Meg’s Makeup that included cleanser, scrub, moisturizer, and a mask. I really liked the cleanser and scrub. The moisturizer is nice too, but without sunscreen I’ve only used it at night. This is great for days when my skin is feeling oily. I’ve seen it at TJ Maxx so if you’re interested in using it, you can pick it up there.
Michael Todd True Organics Moisture Lite – I got this in a skincare set from Groupon. I would repurchase if there was another sale like that; otherwise it’s way too pricey. This is nice and light, but no sunscreen so I only use it at night. The lemony scent is divine.

empties 2

From top to bottom:
Eyeko Strawberry Fat Balm – discontinued but I’ve got a backup.
MAC Twig – I’ve been using this off and on for years, but I won’t repurchase since this lipstick is just too heavy and drying for me.
Avon Glazewear in Charmed Rose – discontinued but I’ve got a backup. I would love to find another sheer rosey lipgloss like this. It’s so easy to wear. Any suggestions?
Avon Smooth Minerals in Plum Craze – discontinued (sensing a theme here?). Great formula and I hope Avon brings it back soon.
Avon Smooth Minerals in Malted Mineral – It was the perfect nudey shade for me so I’m bummed that it’s discontinued.

empties 3

Avon Anew Reversalist Day Cream with SPF 25 – nice smooth formula that absorbs quickly and leaves my skin feeling soft. I’m already on a new jar.
Queen Helene Apricot Facial Scrub – I use this on my body. I can’t tell the difference between this, St. Ives, and the Target generic versions of this scrub (and I’ve used them all), so I will repurchase whichever is on sale.

empties 4

Avon Magix Face Perfector with SPF 20 – This is my HG primer. I’m already using another tube of it.

empties 6

Burt’s Bees Lemon Butter Cuticle Cream – I will definitely repurchase this, but I’m using another cuticle cream from my stash in the meantime.

empties 5

From top to bottom:
Urban Decay 24/7 eye liner in Lucky– Another gift from Meg’s Makeup. A beautiful copper shade that applies oh-so smoothly. I wore this down to the nub!  It’s currently on sale at the Urban Decay website for $6.
Benefit They’re Real mascara – This year’s birthday gift from Sephora. I wasn’t impressed.
Addiction NV Big ‘N Black mascara – this was a winner. I will repurchase when I run out of black mascaras, and I wish it came in brown!

empties 7

Two perfumes from Arcadian Designs Campfire and Luck of the Irish. I will definitely be repurchasing both of these scents (but only after I use up what I already have).

Phew! If you made it this far in the post, I thank you for reading!

Meg’s Makeup gift

I’ve been a member of Meg’s Makeup for quite a while now – it’s a website where you earn points toward free makeup and skincare gifts. Well, there are shipping and handling fees depending on the points package you redeem and where you are in the world. My last 250-point redemption was $12 and it took a while to arrive, but here it is!

  • Urban Decay Build Your Own Palette with Breathless – very pretty neutral color. I might give this away since I’ve got more eyeshadow that I could ever possibly use in my lifetime and this only encourages me to buy more. I’m pretty sure my sister will love this, and me for giving it to her, haha. Thanks Meg!
  • Juice Beauty Reflecting Gloss in Guava – very excited about this! I’ve read a lot about Juice Beauty, and I can never have too many lipglosses… plus Guava looks like a shade right up my alley – sparkly orangey-pinkish. I’ll have to swatch it soon.
  • Aero Minerale Makeup Mist bronzer in Malibu – I’d received one of these from Meg before, but I don’t like tanning or bronzing at all so I gave it away. I’ll give this one away too and look like such a generous friend, win-win!

So, that’s my Meg’s Makeup gift. I did wait a while for this, but Meg hasn’t ever let me down so I knew it would come eventually. Sure, I can’t use everything she sends, but the thrill of the expectation is why I participate. And I can always find someone who wants what I don’t! Plus, Meg is dedicated to animal rescue and pledges to promote cruelty-free products.

If you’d like an invite, leave your email in the comments. I get 10 points if you sign up, and Meg ships worldwide so anyone can join.

Blush Challenge – Ecco Bella Rose Orchidee

I got this Ecco Bella Rose Orchidee blush a while ago in a package from Meg’s Makeup. I’ve used it quite a bit so the package is a bit beat up.

Someday I will learn to take nice photos

This blush is a highly pigmented, cool pink blush that doesn’t pull orange (a real problem with cool-toned mineral blushes). I apply it with a fluffy kabuki brush under my foundation, and I like the flush it gives me.

I do like this blush but I probably would not have bought it for myself.  I generally don’t like pressed products very much – I’ve v-e-r-y oily so pressed cosmetics always get that smudge on the surface even though I use a clean brush every time.  It’s also pricier than other mineral blushes ($15.95) but it will probably last for a long time since it’s has such good color payoff. So for this blush, I will break my no-pressed-products rule and would repurchase.

Product Review – Lash M 3-in-1 Eye Bright

I’ve been using Lash M 3-in-1 Eye Bright for the last few weeks. Thanks to Meg’s Makeup for sending this to me in a recent gift package!

  • I like the icy, tingly feeling I get under my eyes when I apply this. I actually use it in the morning too – although the directions say to use it at night – because it makes me feel a bit more awake. I can’t find the ingredients on the Lash M website so I’m not sure what’s in there for that tingle.
  • The texture is a little bit sticky, so I have to put a moisturizer on top of it, lest my skin fold over and stick to itself when I lie down to sleep. The last thing I need in that area is another wrinkle.
  • I haven’t noticed that my panda circles have diminished, nor do I feel like it’s a good moisturizer
  • Finally – the cream squirts out of the container rather indiscriminately, and with that white-ish color…that’s just unfortunate.

Go on, tell me this doesn’t make you blush and giggle a little bit

I don’t think I would repurchase this. This might work for women who don’t have serious under-eye circles or wrinkling problems, but I need something a little more heavy-duty and with some slip.
