What’s up for the weekend?

Thirsty Thursday – P&J Protein Shake

You may or may not know that I love peanut butter. So when MyProtein asked me to try Impact Whey Protein in the Vanilla Raspberry flavor, of course I accepted and started planning how to use it!
The Vanilla Raspberry flavor is tasty on its own and mixes really well with water. It doesn’t need any additional ingredients to make it palatable, but I haven’t done a protein shake recipe for a while so I experimented!
I added a spoonful of PB2, a couple of handfuls of spinach, and a scoop of the protein powder. SO.GOOD. It was like a sweet PB&J. I really do rely on protein shakes to satisfy my sweet tooth and this is pretty much perfect for that.
PB&J Protein Shake, Impact Whey Protein in Vanilla Raspberry

MyProtein is a pretty big brand in Europe and is now breaking into the US market. Impact Whey Protein is little bit lower in protein than other powders I use (19 grams v. 25 grams), but it’s lower calories, too (97 v. 150). If I added another half scoop, it would have much more protein than my other whey powders but for the same amount of calories. And did I mention how tasty this is? This protein powder comes in twenty flavors! Sticky Toffee Pudding sounds delicious. Thank you MyProtein for bringing this into my world!

What kind of jam do you like on your PB&J? I’ve always liked raspberry best.

Peanut Butter is my Boyfriend

Here is my usual lunch:Hello Kitty sandwich boxPB&J in a Hello Kitty sandwich box. Cuz I’m mature like that.

Trader Joe's natural peanut butterTrader Joe’s has a nice variety of peanut butter. I used to love the one that had added flax seeds, but it hasn’t made a return since it was recalled because of that salmonella crisis a couple of years ago.

Laura Scudder's Old Fashioned All Natural Peanut ButterBecause of the salmonella recall, Costco stocked this instead of their house brand. I used to eat Laura Scudder’s as a kid so it was an acceptable replacement.

Costco Kirkland Natural Chunky peanut butterHowever, Kirkland brand peanut butter at Costco is my absolute favorite. And now it comes in chunky! Before the salmonella scandal, my local Costco only had smooth. If only Costco would make a package with one of each…

As an aside, why should we have to worry about contamination of such an American staple? There is something seriously wrong with food safety in our country.

It’s hardly a coincidence that this is my desktop wallpaper and absolute most favorite painting in the entire world:
George Washington Carver, National Portrait Gallery, peanut butter is my boyfriendIf it weren’t for him, what would American schoolchildren eat instead?!
