Today’s workout

Today I went to Total Woman gym, my happy place! I haven’t been in ages.

I’ve started Couch to 10k over, for seemingly the umpteenth time. I’m working on speed now, and I’m not unhappy with today’s result. I’m still in Week 1!

I also did a TCA patch test. A such as I like twice-weekly Mandelic acid peels, I’m ready for something stronger. Wish me luck!

How was your day?

November Empties

Hello December! I think I’ll try to summarize my used-up products monthly;  here’s my entry for November empties.

I review Dove Intensive Nutrition body lotion, Avon Elements Moisture Boost, Cosmedica vitamin C serum, Avon Haiku, Everyday Minerals Smokey Pink eyeshadow

1. Dove Intensive Nutrition body lotion – I bought this in Mexico (as you can probably tell from the packaging). It’s a very nice body lotion that absorbs quickly and works well. But! It doesn’t have that nice Dove scent, so I probably will not repurchase.
It’s also worth noting that in Mexico, it’s ~$3, but at Target, it’s ~$8. What gives?!

2. Avon Elements Moisture Boost SPF 15 – I may or may not have nagged suggested to 유씨 that he wear sunscreen on a regular basis, and I’m happy to report that this item is a staple for him. He uses it on his face, his arms, his legs…I’ve been following his lead and using it on pretty much any exposed skin (other than my face). It smells nice and doesn’t leave a residue. There may or may not be 3 more bottles in the cupboard under the sink at home.

3. Cosmedica vitamin C serum – the lovely poeple from Cosmedica sent this to me a while ago, but I only recently added it to my skincare rotation. I wasn’t sure that it did anything for my face, but now that I don’t have it anymore, I miss it! I will repurchase.

4. Avon Haiku purse spray – I reviewed Avon Haiku here. As much as I like this fragrance, there are so many more out there to try, especially now with my ScentBird subscription! So, I probably will not purchase.

5. Everyday Minerals Smokey Pink eyeshadow – if you use mineral eyeshadow, you know that using this up took no less than 4-5 years. I would repurchase, but it’s been discontinued. So I’ll have to turn to the rest of the eyeshadows in my stash for a replacement.

Any products you’re loving lately?

Shape Magazine Meet and Tweet

You guys, I’m back from Mexico (for good this time, fingers crossed) and just in time to have attended this amazing event last week.I attended the Shape Magazine Meet and Tweet in Santa Monica featuring Sonya Dakar, Dr. Rodan, Bogs footwear, and Anhu footwear

The setting was on the beautiful Santa Monica beach. It was a cool morning, but it became a warm and sunny afternoon. #WestCoastBestCoastI attended the Shape Magazine Meet and Tweet in Santa Monica featuring Sonya Dakar, Dr. Rodan, Bogs footwear, and Anhu footwear

There were various speakers giving us fitness and blogging motivation, but I was most excited by this panel regarding skincare – Dr. Rodan from Rodan&Fields (creators of Pro-Active) and Sonia Dakar, famous facialist to the stars.
I attended the Shape Magazine Meet and Tweet in Santa Monica featuring Sonya Dakar, Dr. Rodan, Bogs footwear, and Anhu footwearThat’s Mimi Dakar to the far right-Sonya’s 40 year old daughter. FORTY YEARS OLD and not a wrinkle on her plump and dewy skin. She swears by their company’s Organic Omega Booster, so I was thrilled to find it in the goodie bag at the end of the day.

Here are some things we learned at the skincare panel:

  • Dr. Rodan recommends treating your entire face, not just spot-treating. She’s also looking to Korea for innovative beauty treatments, including overnight patches for expression lines
  • Sonia and Mimi Dakar like facial oils
  • And they all agree that sunscreen, sleep, and exercise are great for your skin

Then it was lunch time!

At the end of the day, all the attendees collected our goodie bags.I attended the Shape Magazine Meet and Tweet in Santa Monica featuring Sonya Dakar, Dr. Rodan, Bogs footwear, and Anhu footwear

The gifts included these awesome gym shoes from Ahnu

And this pair of rain boots from Bogs. It’s supposed to be an El Niño year in Los Angeles…I might just use out of these rain boots yet.

I may or may not have been most excited about the gifts from Rodan&Fields and Sonya DakarI attended the Shape Magazine Meet and Tweet in Santa Monica featuring Sonya Dakar, Dr. Rodan, Bogs footwear, and Anhu footwearRodan&Fields’ gift is Acute Care – patches you wear on your expression lines overnight (inspired by k-beauty), and Sonya Dakar gifted us with the Organic Omega Booster that Mimi loves.

I’ve already started using some of the products in the goodie bag and I’m planning reviews of them now. There are some gems in there, let me tell you.

Thank you so much to Shape Magazine for inviting me to such an amazing event, and thanks to all the sponsors for the incredible gifts!

Product Usage Report

TOO MUCH STUFF

Good morning! A few months ago, I posted the skincare items I’d packed for my business trip to Mexico (which turned out to be four months long). A friend who read it described it as “escalating product dependency” but interestingly, I think it really helped me narrow down my absolute essentials for daily use.

I was also interested to see how long each skincare product lasted. This list should help me avoid stockpiling (why do I do that?!)

4 oz contact solution – 2 months
1 stick of deodorant – 10 weeks (I used this maybe two or three times a day)
1 bottle of mandelic acid toner – 3 months (used once a day)
25 oz bottle of hair conditioner – 6 weeks (used daily)
1.7 oz tube of CC cream – 1 month  (used daily)
7 oz facial wash – about a quarter of the bottle (used once a day)
4 oz facial scrub – (used once a day)

Takeaway from this – I have too much product. Too many bottles, too many choices, too much stuff! Paring down begins now when I use up what I’ve already got!

My Current Skincare Routine

I have a lifetime of experience with difficult skin. I had cystic acne from the age of 8 until I was 24, and now in my 40s I have melasma and occasional breakouts. But in the last couple of months, my skin has never looked better! People actually tell me that I have a nice complexion and are surprised to hear my age. I don’t think they’re blowing smoke up my you-know-what, so my current skincare routine is working a treat. Here’s what I’m using:

1. An old-fashioned Dove Beauty Cream Bar. I use this in the morning to wash my face and at night to wash off my makeup. Dove Beauty Cream Bar

2. Giovanni D:Tox Purifying Facial Cleanser – I use this at night after I’ve washed my makeup off. I reviewed it here.

3. Giovanni D:Tox Purifying Facial Scrub – I use this every morning in the shower. It’s not so abrasive that I can’t use it everyday, yet grainy enough to be effective.

4. Makeup Artist’s Choice Mandelic Acid Toner – This has made a huge difference with my skin tone. The melasma on my cheeks has faded quite a bit. I reviewed it here.

5. Lucy Minerals Ambrosia Serum – I still think it’s strange that I put oil on my face when I’m already oily, but heck, it works at keeping the wrinkles at bay.

6. Avon Ideal Flawless CC Color Corrector Cream – I didn’t love it when I first got it, but then I started using it daily. I put this on my face right out of the shower, no moisturizer, no primer, just this. It’s not enough coverage for me on its own, but it’s fantastic as a base for my mineral makeup.

7. Shakeology – I have always resisted the idea that what you eat has an effect on your skin (because nothing I ate or didn’t eat made a difference with my cystic acne), but a daily dose of superfoods sure does make my skin look nice. The vegan Tropical Strawberry is my favorite flavor. Shakeology Vegan Tropical Strawberry

What’s your current skincare routine?
