Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trots

That’s right, Trots with an S. I thought it was a good idea to run both the 5k and the 10k at 7:30am on Thanksgiving Day.

20131202-180737.jpgenergybits were needed for this (more on energybits later. I pretty much love them).

Early Thursday morning, I met up with my new friend Julie. I’d only just met her when she said she’d run this race these races with me. How awesome is that? My first running buddy. She’s training for a marathon to raise money for Reading to Kids.

turkey photoCan you see our two bibs there? Since we ran two races, we got two trucker hats as swag and…

two medalsTwo medals!

The 5K was first, and I trailed behind Julie just a little bit for the entire race. She’s much speedier than I am, so that means I ran my fastest race pace yet!

For the 10K, Julie and I split up. She was a few minutes ahead of me, but I still ran my fastest 10K pace yet! And this was with running those hills twice more.

20131203-130940.jpgI usually have a faster race pace than I do when I’m running on my own, but having a race buddy really pushed me to go even faster.

This was the first Downtown LA Turkey Trot, and the turnout was huge! It was a very well-organized and fun event.

How was your Thanksgiving?

  1. wha..? you’re making us look bad. lol.
i just ate tons of non-thanksgiving food and spent many hours in front of the laptop.p
i’m glad to hear that you had a nice race, and congratulations! 😀

  2. I would love to be a runner – but I have never run before in my life – not sure 50 is the time to start. I do try to walk a lot – I have a goal of 100 miles in 25 days. It runs from 12/1-12/25. Trying to curb some of the holiday damage. I am 4 miles behind so far – I will have to make it up this weekend!

I'd love to hear from you
