Turkey Trot Race Recap

Good morning! Last week on Thanksgiving Day, I ran the Downtown LA Turkey Trot. It started in front of City Hall.

Like last year, I ran both the 5k and the 10k. Unlike last year, I did really not impress myself.

The event started with a 5k. Uphill. In the blazing sun. Okay, it wasn’t horrible, but it pooped me out quickly. It was the same route as last year.  I crossed the finish line, ready to wait for the 10k to start, but…

The 10k started without me. Now, the race registration did state that participants have to finish the 5k in 30 minutes to start the 10k, but last year there was a little break between the two! Not this year. I just had to start late. And I wasn’t the only one; we late starters were quite a pack.
The route was a little bit different this year – it looped through an underground parking structure and then back down the hill. It was nice not to have to double back around like we did last year.

Not great times, but don’t I say that for pretty much every race I run? I don’t know what I expect from myself when I’m not training and am generally not a competitive person, even when I’m only competing against myself. My next race is in January, and I am going to try really hard to just enjoy it, stop criticizing myself, and be proud for keeping up this running hobby.

How was your Thanksgiving?

  1. Be proud Wendy! Personally running a 10K right now sounds like a total nightmare to me and I could not do it, so congrats, you go!

I'd love to hear from you
