Unconventional Christmas Gift Ideas

image

Christmas is usually a fun and enjoyable time, but it’s certainly not without its moments of stress.

Things like being in charge of cooking for the entire family for the very first time, and then there’s the giving of gifts.

The problem isn’t with the actual giving of gifts in itself, but more to do with what to get for people.

Many people are difficult to buy for, and you may be sick of giving the same old Body Shop sets, socks and bottles of wine to people simply so you have something to wrap.

In this post, I’ve listed below some really cool ideas for gifts that are creative, say you care, and are pretty unique.

I understand that some of them may seem a little too out there, but wouldn’t you rather give someone something that they can actually get some tangible use out of, instead of something that’s just going to lie in a cupboard gathering dust until next year?

A trip: okay, so maybe this isn’t the most unconventional gift idea, but I still thought it was a good idea to have in there because not everyone is able or willing to book a trip for themselves, and if you know that they need a break for some me time, or even just some time away with their partner after having a baby, then a gift like this definitely says you care and will always be appreciated.

A meal: again, this is not the most uncommon. They’re going to get weird in a minute, I promise. A few years ago while visiting friends in Chicago for the first time, they got my boyfriend and I a voucher to use towards a meal in a restaurant of our choice within a list of eligible restaurants. We had a delicious meal in beautiful restaurant with great wine that overlooked the Chicago skyline as it was snowing – the perfect Christmas setting, and given the fact that the meal bill came to over $100, the voucher was most definitely welcomed.

A savings account: although on first glance, this isn’t the most fun gift out there, it’s actually a pretty great one. A shocking number of adults today have no savings, let alone a dedicated savings account, and it’s not really because they’re bad with money and like to blow it all, it’s simply because they don’t know where to start with saving. If you know your partner, sister or best friend really wants to start putting money aside for something big, then a savings account with a fun name would be a really unique and useful gift for them. It also makes a great Christmas gift for parents with a new baby to start a fund for the baby as he or she grows up.

Online courses and products: these are actually my favorite gifts to give and receive, because I know there’s so much amazing stuff out there that can really help people. For example, maybe you have a friend who’s just starting a new business and could use some guidance -you could gift them a few sessions or a package with a business coach, or even a copywriting course to get them on the right path and show them that you’re supportive of their new venture. You could gift other digital products, such as planners, or health and fitness e-courses and guides. Before you purchase anything, just make sure you check out some reviews here to ensure that you’re actually getting them something useful that they will get results from.

Insurance: again, not the top of the list when it comes to fun gift-giving, but it’s not just health resolutions that should be made for the new year, so it’s one of the most useful and practical things you could ever give someone. Maybe you get them some life insurance, because it’s something they haven’t purchased for themselves yet, but you know that it’s a good idea to have. Maybe you have a really good plan yourself, so you want to show them just how easy it can be to keep a little aside each month to protect their family in the future.

Tarot cards and readings: obviously this one counts on you knowing the person you’re gifting to extremely well. Tarot cards and other spiritual things are definitely not on everyone’s wish list, and some people would even be freaked out or offended if you gave them such a thing, so please tread carefully with this. If you do opt for this idea, then make sure you get them from a genuine source, which you can find at different places online.

Subscriptions: these are actually such useful gifts that I’m honestly surprised not everyone is doing this. Let’s take the business example again, and imagine you have a friend or partner who’s breaking into the online business world and having to bootstrap. Show your support, and help them out by purchasing an annual membership to an email marketing system, landing page provider, or even a social media automation tool. Trust me when I say, for anyone who is starting a business and knows how much use these things are, your gift will be absolutely appreciated.

Adrenaline junkie gifts: if you know someone in your life who’s a bit of a thrill-seeker, then you could have a look online and find many different options for things they’d love. Maybe they want to go skydiving or ziplining, but have never quite taken the time out to book this for themselves. If the love of adrenaline is something you share, then you can book to do it with them and this will be a gift that will create amazing memories for you both.

A donation in their name: maybe you know someone who doesn’t really like receiving gifts (honestly, they are out there, and they’re not just saying it to be polite), but they have a very big heart and would rather give things to others who need them. If this person has a specific charity or cause that’s very dear to their heart, then a donation will be something they’d massively appreciate, and it will completely set you apart.

I'd love to hear from you
