If you’ve been reading my blog for a while, you know the gym is my happy place, but not everyone feels the same! Here’s some advice for you if you’re not loving it anymore.
Let’s face it, the gym is dull, dull, dull. I always get myself into gear in January. I join the gym, plan my workouts and promise myself I’ll go three times a week. Well, guess what? It’s April and I haven’t been for weeks. It just gets so repetitive! Staying fit should be fun and exciting. I don’t know about you, but I just can’t face another run on the treadmill. I decided it was time to find an alternative. I’m committed to staying fit, eating right and being healthy. While I was looking for some other ideas, I came across some fantastic fun ways to stay fit. I thought I’d share them with you today.
Dance
You won’t believe how many calories a dance class burns. It is a really intense cardio workout that improves your fitness, stamina and balance. You’ll slowly become more graceful and tone up your core a little. Most importantly, it is so much fun. There are a lot of different ways you can get involved with dance. You could try the more workout centered classes like Zumba, for example. You could keep it elegant with a Salsa or Tango class too. Take a friend and try a few out.
Water aerobics
Water aerobics is much more difficult than I thought it would be! But I loved trying it out and will definitely be going again. It’s a series of movements and exercises, all with the added resistance of water. When you start getting balls and weights involved, you can feel the burn. It’s an amazing way to tone up and strengthen your core. It tightens your tummy and tones the legs. What more could you want? It’s fantastic for your aerobic fitness too.
Yoga or pilates
A lot of people are sceptical about the power of yoga, but I can’t recommend it enough. It stretches out your tense and stressed muscles. It calms you down and gives you a little perspective too. It works on your balance and flexibility. Work hard and you’ll be bendy and stretchy! Do the right poses and it will really target your core body strength too. I loved this aspect so followed it up with a pilates class. This is a more fitness based form of yoga and I felt the benefits (pain) for days!
Martial arts
If you’ve never had the pleasure of hitting or kicking a punch bag, you’re missing out. Martial arts are the perfect way to relieve some stress and punch it out of your system. Of course, it’s a little more sophisticated than that. You’ll also learn centuries old traditions and the importance of balance and poise. All in all, it’s a strong workout in core strength, power and balance.
Something really different
I think there are some pretty fun ideas on this list. But, if you’re looking for something even more challenging, I have a couple more ideas. Why not try fencing, it’s much more tiring than you’d imagine. You could unlock your inner child with a trampoline class. Finally, you could take to the outdoors by going hiking, climbing or skiing. The choice is yours!
The trick to long term fitness is finding something you love. When you can’t wait to go back, you’ve found a winner!
This is a good post! Lately, I’ve been obsessed with exercising. I want to lose the weight in a healthy way.
