Good morning!
In what’s become a sort of tradition at BlushandBarbells.com, I ran a Thanksgiving Day turkey trot. But this time, instead of going to Downtown LA, I went to the Burbank Turkey Trot.
I love doing races on familiar city streets, and since I used to work in Beautiful Downtown Burbank, I was really happy to take part of this race.
It was a beautiful morning with thick scattered clouds. The sun didn’t beat down on us as we ran, so it was really perfect running conditions. This is over the 5 Freeway.
But! It was a bit chilly! I’m a native Angeleno, folks…I can’t really do these kind of temps. But since I was running, I warmed up pretty quickly. 유씨 retreated into the warmth of his office (just around the corner) while he waited for me to finish!
Here’s the start line. The race was a 5K/10K to benefit the local YMCA. The 10K race was a double loop of the 5K. I don’t know how I feel about double loops. On the one hand, it’s a bit repetitive. On the other hand, it’s nice to know when hills are coming up!
Let’s just say…I did not do my best. The course was a bit hilly and I was slow. It’s never a good feeling to be one of the last finishers.
But, finish I did! It’s hard not to get discouraged at a bad race time but I’m going with the positives here. I woke up early, I finished, and I liked running on a new course. I’m not trying to beat anybody, I’m just trying to get some exercise and stay healthy and active as I get older. #WINNING
What did you do for Thanksgiving this year? Or if you’re not in the US, how was Thursday?
Congratulations! Finishing a 10K (not matter what the time) is an excellent accomplishment.
Monica.
Thank you! I’m going to definitely work on my time.
You did great! I totally didn’t exercise on thanksgiving but hopefully by next year I’ll have worked myself up to running races like you.
You can do it! You can even walk…I’d say about half of the 5k runners were actually walkers!
