Good morning! I turned 50 this year, and regular doctor visits are suddenly super-important!
When you are a kid, your folks will take you to various medical professionals, like doctors and dentists, to ensure you receive all of the required checkups for your health. You do not have to be concerned about anything having to do with your health since the school nurse is keeping an eye on you. You can relax knowing that someone is constantly looking out for you. However, it becomes your duty as you age, which may be a fairly terrifying thing to think about. This is especially true because, as we age, we are more likely to have certain health concerns.
We have compiled a list of some of the health tests you should be undergoing regularly in order to assist you in maintaining a healthy lifestyle as you age. As is the case with anything else, prevention is preferable to treatment, and as such, if you make sure that you go for all of these when they are due, you may perhaps detect any issues before they become even more major and possibly untreatable.
Diabetes
Diabetes is on the rise, and each year sees an increase in the number of people diagnosed with type 1 and type 2 diabetes. You must have routine checkups to ensure that you do not have any of these conditions since, if left untreated, they may be extremely harmful and even result in death. The onset of type 1 diabetes is not related to a person’s eating habits or way of life, and while it can occur at any age, it is typically diagnosed in people under the age of 40.
You must get examined for diabetes if you fall into any of the “at-risk” groups for the disease or have any associated symptoms (increased thirst, frequent urination, and exhaustion are some of the most prominent symptoms).
Cholesterol
If your blood cholesterol levels are excessive, you put yourself at a greater risk of developing cardiovascular disease and stroke, which are two of the major causes of mortality in developed countries like the United States and other western nations. Since your body produces all the cholesterol required, eating foods that contain more cholesterol might cause your levels to become unsafely high. It is essential to have it monitored as you get older, and this becomes even more important if you are overweight, come from a family with a history of cardiovascular disease or high cholesterol, or suffer from specific illnesses, such as diabetes.
Blood pressure
It is extremely important to monitor your blood pressure since, similar to excessive cholesterol levels, high blood pressure puts you at an increased risk for cardiovascular diseases such as heart attacks and strokes, as well as other conditions like aneurysms and dementia. Because high blood pressure can be readily addressed, it is important to have it tested regularly and address the issue before it develops into a more serious problem.
Dental check-ups
It is essential to regularly visit a dentist, such as Hill Country Dental, to keep one’s teeth and gums in good health. In addition, we have a propensity to grossly underestimate how poor oral health might impact other parts of the body. For instance, were you aware that problems with your wisdom teeth and gums might lead to issues with your heart? You should brush your teeth at least twice a day and visit the dentist approximately every six months.
