Water Water Water

Ah, water. It flows so freely from our taps (if we’re lucky and live in a country with plentiful water), but how much if it do we actually drink? I know I don’t drink nearly enough; in one day I drink about 2 liters, or about half a gallon.

So with this round of Body Beast, not only am I going to try to eat properly (food! Always my downfall!), but I’m also going to try to drink a gallon of water a day.

I’ve been doing well so far-I manage to get down a gallon on weekdays. I think flooding my insides helps to keep the munchies away. Bonus-drinking a lot of water makes me go to the ladies’ several times, so I’m not just sitting for 8 hours.

How much water do you drink every day?

Thirsty Thursday – Celsius Flo Fusion Berry Pre-Workout Formula

I’m a huge fan of pre-workout supplements – they’re like a little bit more kindling for my exercise fire. So when I was asked to try Celsius Flo Fusion Berry Pre-Workout Formula before it was launched in August, I happily accepted the product.
Celsius Flo Fusion Berry Pre-Workout drink

Here’s some info on the product:

Celsius is the world’s first and only negative calorie drink, backed by multiple clinical studies. Studies show that drinking a great tasting Celsius before exercise helps you burn up to 100 calories and more per serving, boosts metabolism, reduces body fat, increases endurance and provides lasting energy.

Celsius is powered by MetaPlus®, a blend of ingredients designed to work together to increase calorie burning over a three-hour period. The formula is the result of years of research and testing and while the mix is proprietary, consumers readily recognize and trust the healthier blend of its ingredients such as: Green Tea with EGCG, Ginger, Calcium, Chromium, Caffeine, Guarana, and Vitamins B & C.

I’ve tried Celsius before when I got a can of the drink at a race expo and I liked it. So I was a little bit skeptical about this powdered formula, but this stuff is great. It fizzes just a little bit, and dissolves like a dream so it’s not in the least bit powdery. I didn’t even have to stir it. It’s quite tasty, too.

Celsius Flo Fusion Berry Pre-Workout Formula

I took Celsius Flo Fusion Berry Pre-Workout Formula back to Mexico with me when I was home for a short break, and I feel like it gave me a much-needed boost for my 6am workouts (I was working 12-hour days, so I really needed it). Now that I’m back home, I’ve been drinking it before hitting the gym. Does this burn extra calories for me? Well, the studies say it does, but what I really like about it is that it gives me sustained energy. Drinking this instead of my second third cup of coffee means I get extra Vitamins B and C, and who doesn’t need those? Plus, I feel a lot less jittery without caffeine overload.

Thanks to Celsius for sending me this sample because I really like this product.

Have you tried any pre-workout formulas?

Thirsty Thursday – Protein Shakes

Remember when you were in college or grad school and Thirsty Thursday meant keggers on the quad? Yeah, me too. Never in my life did I imagine Thirsty Thursday would be a blog post about protein shakes because I never thought I’d be someone who’d be into fitness, but here we are.

I’ve been in Mexico for two months now. I brought about 10 pounds of protein powder with me, even though I forgot my sun hat and spare contacts. Priorities!

Here’s what I packed:

My Protein Impact Whey Protein Vanilla Raspberry
I reviewed Impact Whey Protein here – it was a nice gift from a PR company to introduce me to the brand. I didn’t realize it when I received it, but this bag in a smaller size is really handy for travelling. I was drinking this in the morning after my workouts, but I ran out after a month.

Optimum Nutrition casein protein powder in Peanut Buter Chocolate
I only started drinking this Optimum Nutrition casein protein powder when I ran out of whey. Casein is slow-releasing so it’s good at night. It’s not bad-tasting, but casein has a gritty texture. When I drink this at home, I usually add some peanut butter to it to smooth it out.

Shakeology Vegan Tropical Strawberry, Chocolate Shakeology, taking Shakeology to the airport
12-hour days in a foreign country with high altitude – I prepared by bringing two bags of Shakeology. I may or may not have had an extra screening while going through security at LAX (the Vegan Tropical Strawberry bag was already opened), but I guess that’s why I get to the airport early.
I’ve been trying not to eat past 7pm, so I was drinking my Shakeology for dinner.  When I ran out of whey protein, I started drinking Shakeology after my morning workout and drinking the casein at night instead. I’m not eating too terribly well here, so I’m glad I have this because I really need the nutrition.
You can buy Shakeology (from me) here.

I also brought my old Hamilton Beach blender with me – it’s not powerful enough to blend in fruit but I do have nice frothy protein shakes.

Do you drink protein shakes? Any recommendations for me?

Thirsty Thursday – Jumex Sport

Remember that post I wrote about AQUAhydrate? I sure could use some electrolyte-enhanced water now, but it’s not to be found in Mexico, so I’m back to the sports drinks.

Jumex Sport Agua de Coco

Yes, there’s a lot of sugar and calories, but it’s tasty! And it quenched my unrelenting thirst (just plain water wasn’t cutting it). This particular flavor has coconut water and it really hit the spot after my run on Sunday morning.

Of course, no product in Mexico can be sold without a sexy lady somewhere on the label or in promotional materials, I think it must be in the constitution or something.

Will you be watching the World Cup? Who’s your team?

Thirsty Thursday – P&J Protein Shake

You may or may not know that I love peanut butter. So when MyProtein asked me to try Impact Whey Protein in the Vanilla Raspberry flavor, of course I accepted and started planning how to use it!
The Vanilla Raspberry flavor is tasty on its own and mixes really well with water. It doesn’t need any additional ingredients to make it palatable, but I haven’t done a protein shake recipe for a while so I experimented!
I added a spoonful of PB2, a couple of handfuls of spinach, and a scoop of the protein powder. SO.GOOD. It was like a sweet PB&J. I really do rely on protein shakes to satisfy my sweet tooth and this is pretty much perfect for that.
PB&J Protein Shake, Impact Whey Protein in Vanilla Raspberry

MyProtein is a pretty big brand in Europe and is now breaking into the US market. Impact Whey Protein is little bit lower in protein than other powders I use (19 grams v. 25 grams), but it’s lower calories, too (97 v. 150). If I added another half scoop, it would have much more protein than my other whey powders but for the same amount of calories. And did I mention how tasty this is? This protein powder comes in twenty flavors! Sticky Toffee Pudding sounds delicious. Thank you MyProtein for bringing this into my world!

What kind of jam do you like on your PB&J? I’ve always liked raspberry best.
