Top Tips to Avoid Post Workout Acne

Good morning peeps! Today I have an article after my own heart…how to avoid dreaded post-workout acne.

Hands up if you seem to breakout after a heavy workout session? Don’t be shy, you’re not the only one! With all that sweat and grime, it’s quite common to get post workout acne. We’re always told that getting fitter will improve our skin, but sometimes the opposite can happen. Luckily, it’s quite easy to combat. If you want to get rid of those post workout breakouts then here’s what you need to do.

Quickly Cleanse

You need to be super quick with this one! As soon as you’ve finished working out (and cooled down) head to the bathroom. Gently cleanse your face to get rid of any sweat, grime and dead skin cells. If you don’t, your skin will become the ultimate breeding ground for bacteria. And then, acne. You can buy cleansing waters, gels and foams that are easy to take to the gym. For those times when you’re not working out at home.

No More Slap

If you wear makeup to the gym, then this could be the sole cause of your post workout acne. Honestly! The same as if you apply makeup directly after working out. You need to give your face some room to breathe, which means no more slap. At least for a little while. Make sure all of your makeup is properly removed before you work out. Only put makeup back on once you’ve thoroughly cleansed and moisturised your face.

Super Clean

It’s a good idea to consider having a super skin clean every once in a while. This will get rid of any dead skin, dirt and oil. When your pores are clogged up, you’re far more likely to get breakouts. Treatments such as microdermabrasion are a great way of giving your skin a super clean. You’ll find that some treatments can even remove old acne scars. Treat your skin to an in-depth clean whenever you can. It will thank you for it!

Hair Up

Sweaty hair in your face is a no-go when it comes to working out for so many reasons. Not only is it offputting but it’s likely to cause acne as well. Try to keep your hair out of your face as much as possible. Tie it into a high pony if you can. If your hair is short, then consider a sweat band to keep it off your face. This tiny change can make a big difference. It will make your workout more enjoyable too.

Hydrate

Are you getting enough water during your workouts? There are plenty of reasons why you should be keeping adequately hydrated. One of which is your skin! Dry skin can clog up pores and cause all sorts of nasty breakouts. Make sure you stop this from happening, by staying hydrated. Avoid the sugary sports drinks and stick to water where possible.

Hands Away

This is such a simple way to avoid post workout acne, but also one of the most overlooked. Keep your hands off your skin when you’re working out! And when you’ve finished working out. At least until your skin (and hands) are clean again. Dirt and sweat are easily transferred from hands to the face, causing acne.

Now you can hit the gym as often as you like, without worrying about post workout acne. They may only be tiny changes, but all of them add up to such a big difference. You’ll soon see that radiant skin everyone was talking about.

I'd love to hear from you
