With the sun beginning to shine again after a few months of cold and dull weather, it’s time to make those changes. We have all set New Year’s resolutions to be fitter, healthier and more motivated. Now is the time to start gently easing back into the plans that we’ve made and the fitness goals we’ve set for ourselves. This doesn’t have to be as hard as it initially sounds. You can often get back into your fitness groove by making a few simple changes in your life. Getting outside more after a cold winter might also help to spark the senses into action.
Walking your way back to fitness
Getting back into a regular walking or running regime can be a great way to make yourself feel more healthy. It is one of the easiest ways to gently ease yourself back into fitness and is simple for both seasoned fitness fanatics or new runners. Invest in some new training gear that you feel comfortable in and you’ll start to get that positive ‘can do’ attitude back again in no time. Grab a friend and take up running or walking together. Long walks are the perfect opportunity to catch up on the week’s gossip.
Swim your worries away
Swimming is a great way to exercise the whole body. You can ease yourself back into swimming gently by taking your time and going once or twice each week. When you feel more confident, you can start to head to the pool on a more regular basis. Just a one-hour swim will burn plenty of calories, and it is easy to fit into most lifestyles.
Take a fitness class and get some motivational friends
Taking a fitness class is a good way to not only work on your fitness this year, but to meet new people. You will all be in exactly the same position and can support each other as you train. Try something like spinning classes or aerobics to start off with, and you’ll soon hear about new classes on offer that will grab your attention. Don’t be afraid to ask advice from other members or the class teachers as this can help you progress on your fitness journey.

Cycle your way to success
Why not get some good cycling insurance and start up a new hobby? Cycling is a great way to explore the countryside or the city around you, and you’ll get plenty of exercise while seeing new things. Go alone or with friends. You could even take the family along and bring a picnic on warmer days.
Winter sports and active adventures
An active break can sometimes be a good way of getting back into the fitness groove. Short skiing breaks are always available, and you can find some great slopes for both beginners and advanced skiers. Ice skating is another fun way to keep fit. You can either go to local outdoor ice rinks if it is still cold enough or find an indoor rink and have some fun!
I’m easing my way back in after having been out for a few months. Great ideas.
Congrats on getting started again!
Great advice! I am starting back walking tomorrow after three months of doing nothing. I know I am in for some discomfort for the first few weeks, but I’m ready to push through it.
