While I waited for the movie to start this weekend, I did a bit of window shopping for potential items for my capsule wardrobe. First I went into the Calvin Klein store since I’ve purchased that brand before, I think the styles are classic and flattering (and the sales are incredible). I saw a couple of well-priced suits that would have worked very well in my wardrobe scheme – not too formal and can be worn separately. I also saw a great blouse with a purple, black, and grey pattern; perfect for my color scheme.
Then I popped into Macy’s and browsed work pants, which are the bane of my existence. It’s nearly impossible for me to find well-fitting pants, but I’m not a fan of skirts, so search I must. There was a pair at Macy’s that was perfect – curvy cut, petite, thick material with a bit of spandex (seriously, why are so many work pants made with such flimsy material??), and a nice navy color so I can replace the getting-too-big pair I’ve got now. Macy’s has a huge sale going on, so the pants were $35!
But! I didn’t buy anything. Everything was made in El Salvador, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam…and I think I want to buy in Made in the US as much as possible. I’m wondering how possible this is going to be – I didn’t see a single item of clothing that didn’t make me worry it was made in a sweatshop. I am surprised that I care about this at all, but maybe I’m getting some sort of social conscience as I get older, I don’t know.
What do you think? Is it important to you that your clothes/accessories are made locally?
I agree about the fabric for dress pants being so thin! It drives me crazy.
As for finding things made in the US, I honestly don’t look. My shopping options are pretty limited as it is, so I’ve never really paid attention to where things were made.
It’s ridiculous, but I’m positive that thin pants are probably sold with a re-purchase in mind cuz they sure do not last very long.
Hmm.. let’s look at advantages for thin and thick pants. Thin pants: (1) in hot weather days, you need pants that breathe. Sometimes, a breeze down your pant leg is exactly what you need (2) It hugs and accentuates your bottom, if you’re into that sort of a thing. (3) clings to your thigh, calves and hips as you walk, especially on a windy day.
Thick pants: (1) it’s thick (2) durable
I like thin pants and I cannot lie
