Guys, I stink. I don’t know if it’s being A Woman of a Certain Age, or if it’s because I exercise and sweat so much (I just started a new round of Insanity), or because I work 12 hour days in a dank basement, but I feel…musty.
So I decided to try layering fragrance to see if that helps my situation. I bought Avon Haiku because it’s not too perfumey. To me, it smells soapy and fresh, without having that sharp green scent.
I also bought it because it was on sale and I didn’t want to invest a lot of cash without knowing if this technique would work for me.
Plus, it reminded me of my time in Japan.
Here’s the description from Avon’s website:
A simple statement of sheer poetry. A soft and warm floral evoking the serenity of a beautiful Japanese garden, blooming with delicate jasmine, lilies and sparkling citrus.
TOP NOTES: yuzu, pomegranate
MID NOTES: fig, lily, muguet, jasmine
BASE NOTES: tonka bean, sandalwood, musk
Nothing too offensive, right? I could totally wear this in the office without anyone complaining, since no one wants to be That Woman with the perfume cloud around her (or That Man with the overpowering aftershave that makes your eyes water).
I bought the shower gel, body lotion, perfumed skin softener (not sure what that is besides creamier body lotion), talcum powder, antiperspirant, and of course the perfume. Phew, that’s a lot!
I also bought a purse spray, and a little waxy perfume stick. The perfume stick is good for topping up fragrance when I’m at my desk.
My verdict on the products:
- I quite like the shower gel – it’s really lathery and smells great without being overpowering.
- The lotion isn’t quite moisturizing enough, so I’m going to try the skin softener next.
- The antiperspirant is surprisingly effective! I was worried about this item in particular, but it’s pretty good.
- The talcum powder is silky stuff, I really like this too.
I really like this fragrance, but the layering isn’t working for me the way I’d hoped. I’ve asked my workout partner to do a sniff test, and she can’t smell the perfume unless she gets in really close. She assures me that I don’t smell bad, though, so I guess that’s success!
What fragrance are you wearing? Have a great weekend!
I’ve really been enjoying lavender products from the Body Deli. They have a store front in Palm Desert (Hwy 111).

Oh how I love lavender.
I’ve never really been a “fragrance” person, but recently all of my friends have become obsessed with it, so I decided to give it a try. On my way home from Spain I bought a combo back of “Halloween” on the plane with a lotion and travel size and loving it so far! 😀
Is it pumpkin-scented?
I also have been into fragrance recently. I think it’s because I got 2 new perfumes. Anyways from my experience, perfumes don’t stick on me that long. I think it might be true for a lot of people.

So frustrating! And then I worry that I’m putting on too much because I can’t smell it…
