We all have times when we’re feeling anxious or down about ourselves. We might start to avoid certain social situations or challenges. At our worst we might even start to feel low self-worth or become completely demotivated. Other times it might manifest more subtly as anxiety or general feeling of discomfort. A degree of “ups and downs” is certainly common and natural but it doesn’t mean that we have to passively wait for it to be over. There are a few quick and easy steps we can take to feel instantly more confident and positive.
Spend Time With Loved Ones
When our confidence and motivation drops, many of us also find that we can withdraw socially. This then becomes a vicious cycle. The longer we go without seeing other people, the more of a big deal it becomes to see them again and the more anxious we can become. If you’re feeling down or out of sorts, why not invite a friend or family member round for tea and a chat? There is no pressure to get dressed up or head out. But chatting to another person can give us perspective and a break from being inside our own heads. There’s also a good chance that it will lead to a lot of fun and laughter! Studies have shown that our relationships with loved ones can have a profound effect on our mood and wellbeing. Make time for others and communicate with them if you’re feeling down. It’s likely that you would want them to do the same. One of the best parts of having friends and family is receiving their love, support, and encouragement. So be sure to regularly make use of it!
Try Something New
If we’re low on confidence, the thought of trying something new may fill us with worry and doubt. But it can actually be a great opportunity to show ourselves that we are powerful and capable of anything. Select something that you think you would enjoy. If you love to cook, why not attend a food festival or cookery class? If you’re a sports fan, try a team challenge or martial art like Krav Maga. You’ll challenge yourself, have a lot of fun, and maybe even discover a new talent!
Pamper Yourself
It’s an old cliche that a change of hairstyle or a spruce up with new makeup can make us feel more confident. There is definitely some truth in the suggestion that how we look can affect the way we feel. But it is not necessary to have a total style overhaul or a drastic haircut to feel more fresh and confident. Taking a little time out for ourselves can be more than enough to feel rejuvenated. Turn off your phone, light a few candles or put on some soothing music and just focus on yourself. You could try some simple breathing meditation or read a book. You could give yourself a pedicure or a luxurious face mask. A drop in confidence can actually be down to something as simple as feeling overworked or exhausted. Rest well, pamper yourself, and you are likely to feel instantly better.
Amen! These are all great!!! Thank you for this post.
