Race Recap – Disneyland Tinkerbell 10K

Last weekend, 유씨 and I went to Anaheim for the inaugural Tinkerbell 10K at Disneyland. We stayed at a hotel overnight so we didn’t have to rush to the 6am start line. If you’re going to Anaheim, I recommend the Indigo hotel. You just know with Aveda toiletries that it’s a good hotel. The staff is great, and they upgraded us to a room with a view of the fireworks from Disneyland! That was really awesome.
Since we were staying in Anaheim, we got to go to the race expo at the Disneyland Hotel (I love race expos), and hang around Downtown Disney.

The race was a lot of fun, if extremely crowded.  A Disneyland race is not a good time to try to set any personal records, but it is a good place to get started racing – 유씨 probably would not have agreed to race if it were just a regular course, but something about Disneyland makes it exciting and fun.
Now, here is where I would insert a photo of the two of us in front of Sleeping Beauty’s castle at sunrise in our race tees, or a cute pic of 유씨 running alongside The Little Mermaid theater, or the photo that 유씨 of me in front of Mickey’s ferris wheel…but I dropped my phone in the water while boarding the Davy Crockett’s Explorer Canoes (that ride kind of sucks, by the way). Oops. Even if the cast member had been able to retrieve it for me, there’s no way it would still be working.
The young women sitting behind us in the canoe were frantic about my phone, but I was philosophical. I’d had it for a good 3-4 years and it was slowly dying anyway – two or three times in the last year it completely wiped out my contacts, the battery life was terrible, and sometimes my apps didn’t open at all.  I knew I was going to have to replace it eventually, and I bought the same case for an iPhone 5 for when that day came. I backed the phone up on iTunes the previous day, so the only thing I really lost were our cute photos from Disneyland. I’m pretty bummed about that but what can you do.

So instead, I give you photos I took at home with my new iPhone:

Our cute performance tees:

These are pretty sweet. And they’re long-sleeved, because you know, it’s COLD in January.

Our time:
Garmin, Tinkerbell 10KLike I said above, Disneyland is not the place for PRs with all the funneling and photo-taking and bathroom breaks. I was really proud of 유씨 for that pace though because he’s not a runner and not interested in running.

 Our medals:

I saw people walking around Disneyland later that day wearing their medals and I was kind of mad that I didn’t think of it.

Have you ever lost your phone? Was it no big deal or devastating?

Last few days to buy T25 or P90X3 challenge packs at the special New Year’s Resolution Rates!

  1. You guys got medals, awesome! The shirts are cute too. I want to do the color runs & the breast cancer runs. I’ve always worked Saturdays but now that I’m Monday-Friday it is definitely something I’ll be doing this year. You go girl!

  2. So sorry to hear about your phone, but fortunate that you had backed it up so recently! I dropped my droid a few months ago on a hike and put a big crack in the screen. I reacted about the same as you… a phone is a thing and it can be replaced so it shouldn’t put a damper on whatever awesome thing you’re doing.

  3. I guess that was best case scenario with your phone – I never backup my phone. So I would be pretty bummed! I have a big ol’ spot for RunDisney on my bucket list and love reading about anyone who has done a race! So much fun! Bummer about your pictures but it sounds like a blast!

  4. I am so sorry about your phone But I hope your new one is flashy and you can come on Instagram.
My husband dropped his phone somewgere (Just last month in SF) I was at Target and he had left. He came back and fortunately found his phone at target in lost and found. It was the scariest 15 -20 mins he says.

But my BIL lost his phone in vegas and another time in some resturant–in a span of three months.

My father lost his cell too.
Boy, now you don’t look so bad do ya?

So, I know how ya feel.

    1. It’s crazy how dependent we are on our phones, isn’t it? I couldn’t even figure out the bus schedule without mine – I had to WAIT at the stop until one showed up, haha.

I'd love to hear from you
