Thirsty Thursday – Agua

Thirsty Thursday - Agua

Buenos días!

The first time I came to Mexico City more than 10 years ago, I got altitude sickness.  Mexico City is ~7300 feet, or ~2240 meters. For a valley girl like me, that’s a huge adjustment. Dehydration exacerbates altitude sickness, and I did not want to go through that again (especially since I had to start working right way).

I try to drink a lot of water on a regular basis anyway – about 100 ounces or three liters a day. Since I’m living in a hotel, I can’t just fill up from my kitchen sink-top filter, so I have to buy water.
Mexico has these handy 10-liter bottles for ~$2 at the local convenience store.

Besides refilling my water bottle, I use this for coffee, protein shakes, and Shakeology. We have a water dispenser at work and the hotel leaves a bottle of water daily, so I use about two of these 10-liter bottles a week.

How much water do you drink every day? Drink more!

  1. I never understood how rough altitude sickness can be until we were in Peru. Man, it is no joke! There they drink Coca tea, as in tea made from Coca leaves, a.k.a. cocaine. It did help, but then again, I am sure the small amounts of cocaine make everything feel better. 🙂

  2. I don’t seem to drink very much water unless I try to focus on hitting a certain number of glasses. I’m actually tracking my H20 consumption this month and I’ve been completely blowing past my goal just because I’m more aware of how often I do (or don’t) drink the good stuff.

Dehydration at altitude is one of the things I’m thinking a lot about right now… I actually don’t understand much of the relationship except that you’re in for a really bad time if it happens to you!

I'd love to hear from you
