Here are some steps I’ve taken to creating my capsule wardrobe:
- Took two pairs of pants to the cleaners to get hemmed.
- Arranged the stuff hanging in my closet by color, which helped me decide on my accent colors
- Decided that my accent colors will be olive, red, navy, and purple/lavender/plum based on what’s already in the closet.
- Decided on a budget of $100/month for clothes. I will not be afraid to spend the entire amount on one item if it fits, it’s comfortable, it flatters, and will last for a while. Quality over quantity is what I’m trying to achieve.
Today I wore a suit – for the first time! – from the back of my closet that I purchased FIVE YEARS AGO. I think I stress-ate my way out of it very soon after I purchased it, although I was happy to realize that I did have the pants hemmed. It’s in a tan-ish color, fits properly, looks pretty good on, and is comfortable thanks to a tiny bit of spandex. It’s in the right color scheme for my basics. Win!
