Book Review – Echoes by Maeve Bincy (spoiler-ish)

Hello friends – this is a long overdue book review. I’ve been flying through Maeve Binchy books lately – I just cannot get enough of these stories. Today’s review is Echoes.

If you liked Circle of Friends, you’ll like this book too. It’s the same premise – village kids who go off to Dublin for university, a faithless young man, an unexpected pregnancy, a kind country doctor, class differences, even a devoted family dog. The reason I like Maeve Binchy’s books is because characters ordinary people living their ordinary lives, but somehow the author makes them seem fascinating. I got frustrated with the main characters, but at the same time I was very sympathetic.

Echoes was definitely captivating – I couldn’t put it down! But the ending was a little bit less than satisfactory. I think that is part of the charm of the book – the reader is left to imagine how the characters’ lives carried on.

Are you a fan of Maeve Binchy?
Why haven’t I read these books before?!

  1. Although I’ve seen her books a lot (and might actually have a couple sitting on my bookshelves), I don’t think I’ve read any of her books. I’ve been taking advantage of having down time this summer, and I’m flying through books too. It’s fantastic!
