Here are the books I read week ending 19 January 2020:
Maid: Hard Work, Low Pay, and a Mother’s Will to Survive by Stephanie Land
This book, about a working poor single mother, really resonated with me since I grew up in similar circumstances. I read some of the Goodreads reviews for this book, and the way people criticized the author really hurt. But I’m glad she wrote this book and made her story public.
I gave it 5/5 stars on Goodreads.
More reading about girls who grew up in cults…but this is fiction about a 13 year old girl who manages to escape her fundamentalist polygamy cult. I enjoy this book, but I really could do without the sexy image on the cover, since the main protagonist is a child. Who is about to be married off. But still, the cover image bothers me.
I gave it 5/5 stars on Goodreads.
