This Week in Workouts link-up with Ashley from Sweaty Girl in a Fur-Covered World
Monday – I started the Bulk phase of Body Beast with Bulk:Chest and a 5-mile run. Hey! I thought Bulk:Chest was not all that tough! Until the next day and my chest was so sore that breathing kind of hurt.
Tuesday – Body Beast Bulk:Legs and Blogilates Hot Abs. I used 35-pound weights for the sumo squats! Very exciting, but hardly surprising that my big cuban culo is the strongest muscle on my body. I walked 7.5 miles this day. (Is culo still a rude word, or has Pitbull normalized it?)
Wednesday – Body Beast Bulk:Arms. I used 12.5- and 15-pound weights. I tried to use the 17.5 weights, but my eyes were bigger than my biceps. 10-pound weights were much too light, so I just stuck with the 12.5s and 15s. There was a sorry attempt at a run because I thought my legs weren’t all that tired from yesterday’s workout. The legs disagreed. I walked 7 miles this day and I did Blogilates Muffin Top Meltdown.
Thursday – this is Body Beast cardio day, but instead I ran 5 miles and did Body Beast Abs.
Friday – Body Beast Bulk:Back. This was a short, 30-minute workout. I walked 6 miles on the treadmill with my new walking shoes from Vionic (click here to join us in the 2014 Walkabout!) while I caught up with my soaps. I thought about doing some abs but I don’t suppose that counts.
Saturday – 2-mile warm-up run before Body Beast Bulk:Shoulders. 유씨 joined me in the apartment gym for Body Beast today. I belong to a Facebook group for ladies who do Body Beast, and a common theme is how their boyfriends/husbands/families tell them that weight-lifting is not for women, they’re going to look like men, blah blah blah. Not here, though – 유씨 is happy to join and encourage me. I am very lucky.
Sunday – Rest day, so I ran 6 miles on the treadmill while – you guessed it – I caught up on my soaps. I went to my ladies’ gym for this. I love that place.
Why lie? This is the real reason I started to do Body Beast.
I’ve got 4 more weeks of the Bulk phase in Body Beast, so I’m hopeful I really will get to those 17.5-pound weights for bicep curls. Maybe even 20s?

What a great workout week! I have never bulked but I am working towards a bikini comp next year so I may find that at some point I need to. I think the amount you lifted for arms is amazing! The 10 pounds are not too light for me. 🙂
If you do Body Beast, you’ll be surprised how quickly you progress!
Good luck with the bikini comp!
