Ever since I was given my tablet as a birthday gift in February and realized I could get a Kindle App, I’ve barely put it down. I think I’ve read more the 8-9 months I’ve had it than I have all of the last 2-3 years.
Of course, this means I’m terribly behind on my soap, but I’ll catch up when I have to…do something where I can’t read using my Kindle App.
Now, on to the monthly link-up!
1) What are you currently reading? Tell us a bit about it!
I’m currently reading Scarlet Feather by Maeve Binchy.
I read all the Maeve Binchy books I could get my hands on earlier this summer, but there are still a few out there. I just got a county library card (I was previously using just the city library) and they seem to have the ones I haven’t yet read online. Joy!
Like most of Maeve Binchy books, this is about ordinary Irish people living their ordinary lives. I love the way the characters’ stories entwine, and there are some repeat characters from other books, too. I’m really enjoying it.
2) What are your five most recent book purchases?
I don’t buy books anymore! But here are the last five books I’ve read:
- The Burgess Boys by Elizabeth Strout. This novel was about a very unpleasant family from Maine who tries to rally around their weird young relative when he commits a hateful crime. There was not a single sympathetic or likeable character in this book. I borrowed this from the library.
- Before I Forget by Leonard Pitts Jr. This is the story of three generations of black fathers. I’m neither black nor a father but I loved this tragic story. I got this free from BookGorilla.
-
Anonymity by Janna McMahan. I felt kind of cheated by this book since the main character – a teenage runaway- wasn’t really developed very much. This was another freebie from Book Gorilla.
- Nicola and the Viscount by Meg Cabot. You really can’t go wrong with Meg Cabot for quick, cute (if very cliched) reads. I got this from the library.
- Far Horizons by Kate Hewitt. I’d never read anything about migration from Scotland to Nova Scotia, Canada – fiction or not – so I really enjoyed learning something about this. Book Gorilla for the win!
3) Have you ever named/nicknamed anything (person, pet or thing) after a character? Who and why?
Err, no.
4) If you could live in one book, all of its characters and in the town, which would it be?
I wouldn’t mind living in one of Maeve Binchy’s books. The characters in her stories are like regular people with nuanced personalities, and they seem to be open to new people.
5) Can you think of a book you read that taught you something concrete that you’ve never forgotten? Tell us about it.
I’ve learned a lot Suze Orman’s books that have really helped me get my finances/debt, and thus my life in general, in control.
I wish I got to read normal book! College kills that! You have to read everything else but what you want to read!
I’ve never heard of Maeve Binchy before. I’ll have to look into it.
Thank you for mentioning Book Gorilla! I have been trying to remember the past couple of weeks what that was called so I could try and get it on my iPad! Thanks for stopping by my blog! Have a great week!
