Literay Junkies May Link Up

Fabio, Bodice-rippers

I should have named this blog Blush, Barbells, and Books yes?
On to my favorite link up – I’m very excited to read other bloggers’ responses so I can put their books on my to-read list!

Here are this month’s questions:
1. What are you currently reading? Tell us about it!
What She Left Behind by Ellen Marie Wiseman, Overbite by Meg Cabot, Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn, Where'd You Go Bernadette by Maria SempleThis is the second (and last, I think) in a series about a single New York gal that falls in love with the son of Vlad the Impaler. Meg Cabot’s books are always light and entertaining and I usually love them all.

2. Do you judge a book by its cover? What cover elements make you not want to pick up a book?
I don’t particularly like bodice-rippers, so if anyone Fabio-ish is on the cover, I’ll probably pass it up.

3. Do you participate in any other bookish link-ups? Tell us about them so we can join next time!
I’m currently participating in the Semi-Charmed 2014 Summer Book Challenge. First check-in is June 1 so there is still time to join.
4. Have you ever watched a movie that was better than its book version? Explain yourself!
I’d say all the Twilight movies were better than the books.

Taylor Lautner shirtless
Enough said
5. Summer is here! Do you read more often during any particular season?
I read the most when I have a long bus commute to work, so it’s not season-dependent.

6. What is the worst book you’ve read this year? Why?
Serena by Ron RashThe only way I can describe this book is plodding. I forced myself to get through the first 15% of the book and then gave up.

Β What are you reading?

PiYo workout, Chalene Johnson, new Beachbody workout

  1. AAAAHHHH! I LOVE seeing this Fabio cover! What a great throwback!!! He is hilarious. Oh, I like this daily mile ticker you have here too! I think the first Twilight movie was especially good! I did like the books though…confession.

  2. LOL @ Fabio on the covers!!! Those looks like the romance novels my mom used to read in the 90’s. I would have to agree with passing as well!

  3. I have never been a fan of novels. I prefer short reads like blogs and magazines. Recently I have been intrigued my spiritual and self-help books, like the ones featured on Oprah’s Super Soul Sunday. Hearing the stories directly from the author motivates me to give their books a try. For a fresh, encouraging perspective on Christian doctrine, run- don’t walk to purchase anything by Joel Osteen- he’s my fave- I watch him every Sunday AM and read his books daily- Also, Marianne Williamson’s Illuminata is a beautifully written book of prayers. I may try to read the Divergent Series, because I really enjoyed the movies.

    1. Thanks for the recommendations!
Divergent was pretty bad – I suspect the movies are better than the books.

  4. I absolutely LOVE Meg Cabot. She’s always been one of my favorites. I haven’t heard of this series. My friend got to meet Meg Cabot, and I was so jealous. I judge books by their covers too. I pass on books that look like that too. I didn’t like the Twilight books or movies at all.

I found your blog through the Literary Junkies link-up, and I wanted to reach out to you because I love connecting with fellow book lovers! I’ve created a unique opportunity for people who love books as me called the Summer Book Swap. It’s a fun way to connect with bookworms and discover new books. To join in on the fun, visit my post! — http://www.endlessblissblog.com/2014/05/summerbookswap.html

I'd love to hear from you
