A comfort zone is not a bad thing. It’s there for a reason. When you feel comfortable, you feel safe, and sometimes even quite content. If you wake up in the morning, it’s pouring with rain, your car needs a checkup, and your boss quite happily called you to say don’t worry about going in, just watch Netflix all day and eat pizza, you would probably be quite happy.
But would that be good for you? Well, maybe it would be quite good for your mental well-being that day. But if that were the case every day, every week, you would become tired, lazy, weak, and unhappy sooner or later. This can be a problem. As such, what we want most is sometimes not the best thing for us, and real, authentic happiness and growth lie close to those tasks we’d rather leave unfinished. It’s just the way of the world, and it’s for the better that things are structured this way.
So, from time to time, and perhaps even growingly so as you develop, it’s good to get out of your comfort zone. Let’s consider how that might happen, and the value it can do you:
Trying On New Experiences
It’s always good to try new experiences and push yourself, because sooner or later you’ll find something you absolutely love. This is why you may learn to dance with us, or try your hand at fishing, or even start taking swimming classes to help feel that buoyant freedom that comes from moving gracefully in the water. If you can challenge a past prejudice, even better. This rounds you off as a person and helps you expand in ways you may not have considered.
Meeting New People
You never know who you might meet when going out of your comfort zone. Is it better to be friends with people who never try or wish to open their minds to a new approach, or is it better to meet those who do try, who are always out, who wish to give themselves to new experiences without fear or shame? Filling your life with people like that is certainly one of the better ways to see life anew.
The Fun Of Your Interests
When people think of ‘getting out of your comfort zone,’ it can feel as tough as they mean ‘trying to do something you have no desire to do and no interest in.’ But that doesn’t have to be the case. You still get to enjoy things that you want to try. Getting out of the comfort zone simply means trying, and not being afraid to be a novice. For instance, going backpacking around a country like Bulgaria could be a great time, and help you get over your fear of travelling outside of pre-packaged resort travel itineraries. You’re allowed to have fun when you push yourself. Maybe that could inspire your way forward.
With this advice, you’re sure to get real value out of your comfort zone in the best possible light.
