Every capsule wardrobe needs at least one LBD (Little Black Dress) – something you can pull out of the closet when you need something for a wedding or a party. An LBD should fit well, have a timeless style, and should be versatile enough that you can make an entirely new outfit from it with different shoes or accessories.
My LBD was in fact purple, but it (happily) no longer fits. So when the House of Fraser emailed asking me to look over the Alexon Collection, the timing was perfect. These dresses are gorgeous. The collection is incredibly varied – there are dresses for every woman’s budget, style, color.
Some of these lovely dresses are in bolder patterns or colors, but for my capsule wardrobe I wanted to look at solid color jersey dresses. In my experience, jersey dresses are pretty much perfect. They can be dressed up or down, are smooth and flattering, and pack down to a tiny size, because when you’ve got to travel to a wedding, you need the luggage space for shoes!

This jersey wrap dress probably #1 pick of all the dresses in this collection. Purple is obviously my favorite color. But besides the hue, the cut of this dress is wonderful for an LBD. The V-neck means I could wear different necklaces to change up the look, but it’s not so low that it wouldn’t be inappropriate at a family function. With 3/4 length sleeves, I could wear a bracelet on each wrist, or pile them on if I wanted to look a little more casual. Best of all, the waist tie would really enhance my shape. I think £80.00 (~$120 US) is a great price for it, since this dress style is timeless.
I absolutely adore the shape of the Alexon Blue Jersey Wrap Dress. It’s sexy and classy at the same time. I love the pleating detail that really nips in the waist, giving an instant hourglass figure. And I love elbow-length sleeves – they really give the dress a feminine silhouette. Navy is a universally flattering color, but this lovely frock comes in pink too for a lady who really wants to make a statement! At £65.00 (~$98 USD) it’s perfectly priced.
The Alexon Pleated Jersey Dress is the quintessential LBD. Besides actually being black, it’s got a V-neck for showing off a necklace and elbow-length sleeves for bracelets. The waistline of this dress is incredibly figure-flattering. I could see wearing this dress with red heels for an office Christmas party, or a leopard-print scarf for a date…the options with this one are endless. £80.00 (~$120 US) is a great price for a dress that you can wear again and again.
