Washing my hair with conditioner

Have you seen the infomercials for Wen? Celebrity spokeswomen shaking their gorgeous locks, using only conditioner for shine and bounce. I’ve got a lot of fine hair that tangles easily, and an oily scalp so I must wash my hair every single day. Sometimes twice if I workout in the afternoon or evening, so Wen seemed like a great idea to me – clean hair without damage. I checked out the ingredients in Wen, and in all honesty they don’t seem too particularly unique so I looked for more affordable alternatives.
First, I tried Silk Naturals Cranberry Passion Fruit Cleansing Conditioner. I really liked it! It left my scalp clean, my hair soft and shiny, and the scent was divine. But, at $10 for an 8-oz bottle, and $5.49 shipping on top of that, too dear for me.
Next, I tried Shampure conditioner from Aveda. I bought a liter as a secret shopper, so it was freeeee!  It took a while to get used to the earthy scent, but after I did, I loved it. The liter lasted for quite a while, but $35 a pop was still too much for me. So I looked for Aveda dupes and came across Suave Rosemary Mint conditioner. I.love.this.suaveThe Suave dupe isn’t the most natural product, but it works for me. I love the scent, and since there are no ‘cones (silicone, dimethicone, etc), I don’t have to worry about buildup. I still shampoo maybe twice a month or so, but washing my hair with conditioner is an incredible time saver for me. It’s so, so much easier for me to comb my wet hair, and I spend less time in the shower shampooing, rinsing, conditioning, combing, rinsing…I keep a spare bottle of this in my cupboard at all times.
Surprisingly, my scalp is not any oilier than usual, and I scrub at my scalp with the conditioner. I think my hair is looking pretty good these days – still a bit damaged from color, but a lot smoother and shinier.

Some honorable mentions for conditioners I’ve washed my hair with:
*Yes to Carrots Pampering Conditioner – This was okay, but I like it better when I pair it with the shampoo. And since I’m trying to avoid shampoo, I don’t have this around too much anymore.
*Trader Joe’s – I have liked all the Trader Joe’s conditioners I’ve used to wash my hair. I keep a bottle in the shower to alternate occasionally with the Suave. I have no idea why the listings on Amazon are so pricey though – it’s $3/bottle at Trader Joe’s.

Have you tried washing your hair with conditioner only? What sort of hair care techniques help keep your hair healthy?
